    Camber Issue

Hello, i am new to this site and just traded my 89 240sx hatch for a 90 honda accord with 151 miles on the clock and in much better condition. i have been slowly getting back to oem. I am troubled with camber in the front wheels. The d/s front has crazy amount of camber compared to the p/s. it has kyb gr2 suspension in the front and with that camber more significant on the on side the front is leaning and scraping alot. any idea how i could fix this or what it might be?

I would Imagine there is no camber kit installed in your car. You need one if you want to correct it. You need to get a good quality upper control arm camber kit, or the spc adjustable upper ball joints-I've been told the udjustable upper control arm kits are safer. Do you have any pics you can post? also you could just go back to stock suspension and that will cure any camber issues-unless something in the front end is bent. And check your ball joints for play while you are fooling around in there.

There isn't really and "easy" way to correct it. You could go to your local junkyard and pull the front strut assemblies complete with springs-should be pretty cheap, just make sure they arent too rusty or leaking, do the same for the rear. I cant imagine it would cost very much to buy used suspension. Look closely at the front springs though I have seen lots of broken ones. They usually break near the top.

Oh and you will DEFINATELY need an alignment after you change out those parts.

i will look into it, but as of right now our local junkyards are covered in slushy snow. I work at Honda and i will see how much they would charge for the suspension parts i might need but as of now i want to do the washer trick to correct the one wheel.

Washers only work for the rear wheels I believe. A set of aftermarket stock height springs is fairly cheap. I just dont know if your struts would be long enough for them.

Don't get a camber kit. That is dangerous because it is just fixing the symptom, not the problem. You need to figure out what is causing the excessive camber on the driver-side. And please don't just throw parts at the suspension hoping it will fix the problem.

You need to jack up the car and take off the wheel, then really look at the suspension, bushings, balljoints and the hub assembly. Look for anything that looks worn out, broken, or bent. There HAS to be something wrong with the car to be causing the excessive negative camber on one side. (Cross your fingers and hope it wasn't in an accident).

Is there a size difference in the fender gap between the tire and fender? Or, is there just excessive camber and the height from side to side is the same?

I'm wondering if there's a deeper underlying issue, other than just camber kit..

he said that one driver's side had more camber than the passenger side. This tells me that, either A) Something is bent, B) Wheel bearing is bad.

Either way you need to get a camber kit and an alignment if the car is lowered.

All he stated was that he had kyb gr2 suspension. These are stock replacement components. He never once stated that his car was lowered. I do not think a camber kit and alignment is the correct fix. Like I previously said, the OP needs to find out what the problem is, not just fix the symptoms.

Sorry I assumed that his car was lowered as he said he was having camber issues, and said he was concerned about the camber in the front wheels. If the camber is noticeable to the naked eye in the front something is really wrong if it isnt lowered. If his car is not lowered and is rubbing from too much negative camber I dont think it would even be safe to drive. If things are out of wack in the front end once the problem is corrected an alignment is always the thing to do if youve removed tie rod ends ball joints control arms struts etc. And an alignment is sometimes all thats needed to fix the symptoms.

                          Op is your car lowered?

So far, I just see "kyb gr2 suspension kit"... kyb gr2s are shocks. What springs is it running on?

Honestly, don't get a camber kit. That's a band-aid approach if you're trying to go back to stock.
As much as I hate to suggest such a thing, this might be the best option if you're on a tight budget: go to your local autoparts store and pick up a set of Monroe Quick Struts. It's essentially a brand new strut/spring/tophat combo, pre-assembled. Easy as pie to install, and it'll be all new stock-spec stuff. Chances are good that the GR2s you have now are shot, assuming you're lowered (as you don't usually see negative camber issues if you're not, unless some parts are seriously damaged...) GR2s are essentially stock replacement shocks... just a slight upgrade. If they were lowered more than 1", or with a stiff spring, then they're likely done. They're just not made for that.

Pictures worth a thousand words... I wanna see this camber.
Can you take a pic of both sides? upload onto flicker or photobucket or whatever and link them in a post? Pics man pics.

Wouldn`t a real bad lower ball joint cause excessive camber?
