ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

    Lowering Help and Suggestions

Im going to lower my ride and i just need some advice. I am set on getting springs with struts, maybe sleeves with struts. I want a 2-2.25" drop both front & rear but the struts should be somewhat adjustable to compensate after settling. Dont want to spend over $800. I was thinking koni yellows w/ tein or koni w/ gc or tokico illumina w/ h&r.... i reallly need some suggestions guys & i also have no clue where to buy them. Thanks

Have you read any of the stickies in the suspension section? That could be a start.

And to purchase them, have you checked eBay?

Yes i have looked at the stickies. My problem is i know i SHOULD get koni yellows but i cant pay 600 for struts alone. What do you think about tokico illuminas with h&r race springs for an overall 2"-2.5" drop with adjustable struts for right around 650 total

Or i could get kyb. Im pretty set on H&R race springs for the appropriate drop. Noow i just have to decide on struts/shocks

Im getting worried that the majority of people in other threads are saying koni yellows/neuspeed setup is really the ONLY way to go. But i cant pay a grand for a drop. Is it even worth it to spend 400-700 on either h&r race with kyb or illuminas? Cuz if it is ill just leave it stock height.

If you can't now then maybe you can next month. The issue isn't that a certain amount of money has to be spent in order to take your suspension seriously. It's that the only shocks available for our cars to work with a 2"+ drop that are readily available are the Koni yellows. wildbill83 got the H&R-badged version of the kit for a pretty good price. Yes, they're more expensive than a lot of setups but that's because they're the best.

Setting strict budgets for suspension is a lost cause in the first place. You're going to need to be prepared to buy sway bar end links, ball joints, bushings and any manner of things you discover are not serviceable when you've got the car partially disassembled to have shocks and springs put on it. If there was one area that you absolutely should not cheap out on it's the suspension. But everyone does anyway because they want to be a baller on a budget.

Or... Function and Form Type 1(Coil Over) for $600, you can adjust your drop.

As an owner of them and someone who cares about having a forgiving ride I don't think I'm in a position to recommend them. They simply haven't been able to handle anything but perfectly paved roads.

As an H&R/Neuspeed & Koni Yellow owner, I have to stand by that combination. You just can't go wrong.

Keep in mind, you'll be paying for the shocks and springs, any components that need replacing that you notice in the process of installing those things (or things you damage... axles and ball joints are often damaged.) PLUS you'll need to pay for an alignment. A camber kit would also be a very good idea, if you don't want to buy new tires in the next few months. Especially if you get sleeves and want to go as low as 2.5".

If you can't afford to do it right, you can't afford to do it right now. Wait a little longer and keep saving.

Dang, thats a lot of great info and i really appreciate it. Im not very mechanically inclined but i was very excited to get a manual & start learning, especially on an accord. Il have tplo get to suspension another day, how much would you reckon a koni/neuspeed setup with camber kit, bushings.. etc plus everything that may or may nomt need to be replaced cost? I may stick with tune-up and detailing for now haha.

Is there a cheaper setup with less of a drop that would be acceptable for a DD? Or is it 100% save up and get the koni/neuspeed setup?

You open up your shock options immensely when you decide not to go lower than 2.0". Tokico Illuminas, KYB AGXs, Koni STR.t and many more are all decent options for springs in the 1-1.5" drop neighborhood. The only issue is that no one wants to be that high. Everyone wants to be slammed.

Another thing. If you have something additional to add in a consecutive thought to your previous post, simply edit your previous post. Posting a series of posts can be construed as post whoring and will get your post count reset.

If you want adjustability, And you have 800 i'd highly suggest some FFType1's or 2's which will pretty much cover everything from cruising to full on sessions, I have them on my CB7 Coupe, Which I downhill, and street-abuse on a daily basis. Having owned Konig Yellows with varying spring set ups I don't see how they ever got that title as the Best..maybe for the money, but I assure you for 800 bucks you can net something far better, hell the Tein Adjustable Coil over kit for Accords are around that much, slightly more.

Normally I wouldn't suggest these to someone who isn't tracking or racing, but you're dropping 2.25 the whole way around I figure you'd want the option to stiffen up the dampening to conjoin the drop you got goin which is proper procedure especially for such a drop.

Thank you for the warning about posting, im new to the site. To be honest this setup is going to be for a DD no tracking or anything of the sort. Im not set on 2" or lower im REALLY trying to accomplish minimizing tire/fender space and get a nice stance. I dont need to be slammed. In fact id rather not be. Maybe i should be looking at 1.5"-1.8" drop? Opinions?

Don't forget that you will need an alignment after changing the height of the car.

Also, you also need to budget in the possibility of needing a quality camber kit.

                        -2 cents.

Well, before I became a proud owner of my cb7, I used to have an Eclipse GSX awd turbo. When upgraded the power, I had to upgrade the suspension system to help match up the performances of both power and suspension. If folks are willing to drop a lot of $ on upgrading power, why should the suspension be neglected? I feel your financial pain because I've been there. Its a pain in the ass having to dish out extra dough for the better stuff. But I've the learned the hard way about "getting what you pay for." In other words, go cheap, your ride will treat you the same way.

Did a little bit of reading up on prices on my preferences (koni yellows all around and gc adjustables = $1000+). If you can find a price better than what you find for YOUR preferences, like ebay or cl, I'd go for it... just sayin.

For $800.00 i'd recommend getting some F&F type 1 coilovers, they're just over $600 the las time i checked. Pretty decent ride. In addition, here's a link to the suspension sticky on this forum:
