Fuel Pump Issues Please Help!!

Hello everyone i have a 91 coupe 5 speed. dont know if it matters but my fuel pump only works every now and then. it started out when it got hot inside the car so i replaced the main relay, also the fuel pump was replaced a week before the main relay. Now when i first try to start the car the fuel pump will kick on and it will run but it will die out soon after it starts and will not start back up for at least 10 15 mins in between and i took the line off the fuel rail and im not getting fuel from my pump. but everynow and then it will and it will run fine. does any body have a clue what it might be??

my best guess is to check the wireing going to the pump and see if its messed up. try and see if you can get access to the fuel pump plate on the gas tank

i'd check that main relay again. Did you install a brand new one or grab one from the salvage yards?

I checked the connector behind the seat and everything is fine. I havent had time to pull the tank out and look at the connections on the pump it self. But i dont think its that cause it works but stops working like it is tripping it self out. The main relay i put in was brand new and when i put it in it drove fine with no problems. It was cold out when it ran fine i noticed that it happened more when it got warm. I cannot figure it out. So ill just have to wait til i get it towed to do anything. Unless someone has a idea what else it might be?

I would still lean towards the main relay, but first I would run straight power and test the pump.
Just because the main relay you got was 'new' as in never used, doesn't necessarily mean its not as old as your car.

Update.. So i went to my car to see if it would start before i called the tow truck. started right up no problems. sat there and let it idle for about five to ten mins making sure it wouldnt just die. then i started my drive home. I got to an intersection and then the car just dies out of no where. All lights are working fine its just now i cant hear my fuel pump turn on what could cause this to happen? A couple of times of turning the key back and forth i will hear it kick on and prime the motor enough for it to start up and then just die out. But i got it towed to my house and i looked at the relay took it apart and inspected it with a magnifing lens. looks brand new out of the factory. I dont know if my ignition can cause this to happen or my ecu itself causing this problem.

Check ignition switch

I had this happen on a 1989 Accord. Found out ignition switch was bad after dealing with the problem for a week.

Can Anyone Please Help Me?!?!?!?!?

ok so i went out and got a new ignition switch cause all the ones in the junk yards were hacked all the pieces. i put it in and no change. so i dropped my tank and made sure everything was properly together. Everything was good and i put it all back in. Now i dont even hear my relay clicking at all now. Before it would still click when it should and now its gone. i didnt mess with anything else and my battery was disconnected when i started and there are no blown fuses. I am on the verge of getting rid of the car. i checked the plug behind the seat with my volt reader and i am not getting power to that clip. when i turn the key. CAN ANYONE PLEASE HELP ME. This is my daily driver and if i cant get it fixed soon im gonna have to cut my losses and get rid of it and i really dont want that. So any suggestions would help out.

So Far i Have replaced:
Main Relay
Fuel Pump
Both Filters
Ignition Switch

I would check the presence of battery voltage at the wire/plug for fuel pump when fuel pump isn't pumping.

were did you get main relay? (it maters)

I would try another relay it seams you're still describing the same problem...

If you got it at any of the cheep parts stores (advance,pepboys, auto zone, ect.) it could be bad already, or have been bad from new.
Most of those parts are cheep chines made crap. Get it at the dealer or NAPA (they sell genuine honda parts for some apps)

BTW our fuel pumps are what you call bullet proof. they very rarely go bad i can guarantee many member on here have over 200k on them still running strong 260k for me...

(to give you some background, I'm a tech at a small shop and have been dealing with this shit on almost a daily basis. We get all our parts from them and most of the time we are warranting them out with in a year.)

my wagon was doing the same thing, it would run for 15 mins get warm and die, dash lights would go on and car would stay on but it would feel like the gas peddle was doing nothing.

we ended up getting a new distributor from autozone and that one didnt work, we tested it and found out the new distributor was not in working order, so we got another one and it worked fine.

autozone parts are life time warranty so we keep getting them for free...and the ignition coil always goes out on this car, usually after you've had it a year and you've gone on a long drive that heats it up.

I pick up new one every year for the past 4 years.

i should check to make sure my fans work.

If the pump doesn't come on, but does when you jumper #5 to #7 while the relay is installed, it's usually a bad relay.
