ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

    coolant leak

92 lx, f22a1, I've been chasing leaks all over; started with hitting a deer, knocked an upper mount pin off the radiator(hairline crack in the end tank). Changed the radiator(used prelude) and about a week later got a new cap and blew out a heater core hose two days later. Changed that and blew out a capillary in the radiator. Brand new radiator and cap and now i have a leak out of the block. I have tried searching but cant find anything; I far as i can figure its the water pump gasket, but I'm not sure.

the coolant "pipe" is the dark line in the middle right of the pic, it's not leaking quite that far up

I guess the main question is are there other gaskets I need to change or should a water pump and rest of the coolant lines fix the problem?

Looks like coolant is leaking out one of the weeping holes on the pump. That would indicate a failure of the gasket.

Usually for around $100 you can get a timing belt kit from most auto parts stores. It usually includes a new belt, water pump, gasket, and possibly idle/tension pulley. Since you have to remove all that to get to the gasket on the pump anyway, there is no reason not to change it all out. Unless you are extremely limited on money.

looks like your system was weak to begin with, adding the new cap, new/used rad pressurized the system properly and induced your leaks. =\ Ive heard of people doing that maintenance and their heater core pops afterwards.

            This

The pressure has spiked in your coolant system, and thats why this is happening. Is the car idling correctly?

Just so you know, that's not a water pump gasket. That's a weep hole, which is there when the bearings start to go bad.
You need a new water pump, asap. When I did mine in December, it was OEM.
20 years isn't too bad. Do the timing belts too. You have to take them off to do the pump.

FYI: I waited for about 3 months once I noticed the leak. It got progressively bigger every time I parked.

This will make posters think the Water pump doesn't need to be changed. Are you the original owner of your car?
How do you know it was 20 years old? Could be someone uses an OEM water pump and timing belt when they changed it.

And if you are the original owner and you have never changed your water pump. WTF that's just stupid.

                Now to the OP:

Rockauto sells a gates kit for like$78 shipped. I have used that kit for the past 3 times in my accord and no problems.

The rest of your points are valid. I had the timing belt changed back in 2010, but I told them not to do the water pump. It could've been changed prior to me.

Thanks for all the help, I had planned on doing the timing belt with the pump anyway as I have no idea if its ever been done.
I've never had an overheating problem, it does idle a little low though. When I got the car it was missing the idle control screw completely and reading around here I still need to set it properly.
Money is a slight issue, but I'd rather try to get everything done at once to minimize my down time, would it be worth changing the core right now or just hope it's not the next failure?

Probably not a bad idea to do a heater core and hoses to/from just to make sure youre getting all the issues taken care of at once.
