ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

Read them. You will be expected to follow them.

Installing hood pins on a CF hood

    Fixed your title for you.

I've had a CF hood with no pins in the past. It was made by Fiber Images, and had a latch ring that was thicker than stock (which required some modification of the latch.) It was very secure, though. However, pins will never hurt.

Also, since the mention of the trunk is the reason I clicked... I had a CF trunk where the manufacturer created the mounting holes in the wrong location. Since the skeleton was fiberglass, metal inserts were needed for those threads... and adding them to the proper location was a daunting task for someone with my limited experience. I initially sought to use pins, but I couldn't find a good way to do it without creating something for them to mount to. I thought about getting a good trunk brace from ESP, and then fabbing some trunk mounts to that... but I ended up just selling/trading the trunk to a friend for a Phantom Grip and some cash. To my knowledge, he has yet to install the trunk on any of his many CB7s either.

drummersteve7, I can't see your pictures, bummer. Man, that's a long installation time, though, and I would hate to have to weld in reinforcements if there was another alternative.

deevergote, THANK YOU. That was a pretty embarrassing error that I could not get rid of. So, I REALLY have to make sure everything's measured right for a proper fit, it seems, or it's just not worth the weight reduction. To really get a worthwhile amount of weight reduction back there, it looks as though removing the hinges and using pins is the way to go. That is, if you want to fabricate some mounts. It seems like it's not worth the $500 I was going to spend. Before I decide, though, I will call Carbon Creations and have them explain their design and their mounting recommendations.
