ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

Read them. You will be expected to follow them.

    transmission swap.

I am using my phone and can't use search at this moment.

Info about my car: it is 1991 SE, rebuilt a6, pt6 ecu, auto transmission, sunroof, some body damage

Car I am going to buy: 1992 lx, no sunroof, standard transmission, straight body, broken fuel pump,

All I want is the body and standard transmission that I am going to use on my car. Do I need to swap the ECU?

Yes. In fact, you should get a manual PT6. Your auto ECU won't run it correctly with the manual transmission.

      How do I know if it for M/T? Some I read pt6-a11 a12 a51 a52 L50 L51 and L52.

Use the correct ECU for your engine. There is absolutely nothing to be gained from using an ECU programmed for a different engine.

I was under the impression you could solder a pin on the pt6 ecu (pin 17 maybe) to "convert" to manual. Am I crazy?

Numerically, 50 and above is automatic. Lower that 50 is manual. L is CA emissions. A is 49 state emissions.

It is necessary to make accommodations regarding the ECU when going from auto to manual transmission. It's not of dire importance. However doing so is most definitely optimal. Personally I would not operate the vehicle for long without addressing it.

R54 on automatics to R56 on manuals. It's 4.7k ohm resistor with a 5% tolerance rating.

I find it's usually best to just tell someone to buy a manual ECU, than to suggest electronics soldering... as that can often be beyond the skills of most. Still, good info for those that feel comfortable doing the conversion!

CB7NWDD, asked if it was possible. I wouldn't recommend it either. I'm in the process of learning myself and soldering circuit boards is one of the hardest things I have done in a long time. I've thought about giving up as I wonder if it's something I'm even capable of. Just to note how hard it actually is.

I haven't done it myself, but I'm told the quality of the soldering iron makes a BIG difference in how easily it's done.

MRX chipped my P28 right in front of me. Pure artwork.

it makes a huge difference of the quality of the iron, and having a de-soldering iron also makes taking any pins out a piece of cake

Maybe you could lend me a hand? I'm about to rip my hair out and I've probably got my own server at YouTube by now. If you could find the time to PM me with anything information wise I would really appreciate it.

My guitarist wanted to rewire a guitar for me, and he lost his soldering iron. I gave him the iron that I had purchased years ago from Radio Shack. I got their cheapest one.
He tried to use it for 5 minutes and threw it in the trash. When I asked him what happened, he said "I did you a favor."
