ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:
http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/forumdisplay.php?f=144
Read them. You will be expected to follow them.

    charcol canister delete

Does anyone know if you delete yourcharcol canister if it will cause a check engine light ? what about completely removing the wires from the harness? or would you just have to leave the purge solinoid plugged in?
in the middle of a auto manual swap and i live in Oregon so i am trying to get rid of all the unnecessary emissions crap but would like to keep the light off for the time being until i can get some sort of standalone ecu just no real need yet.
i will delete whatever i have to from the ECU completely if i haveto of if even possible i guess i will be looking into the wire tuck section eventually being that i plan on cleaning up my engine harness/ loom to the ecu and trying to remove all unnecessary crap from that as well, for now i guess im just curious what happens when the canister is deleted and unplugged ?

You spew unburned fuel (evaporated hydrocarbons) into the air. The canister has no impact on performance and might even increase your fuel economy a touch.

You might be smelling more fuel from what I know.

The emissions "crap" doesn't reduce your pollution by just a half or so. It reduces your emissions by about 10-20 times. You tear out all the emissions "crap" and you are polluting as much as 20-40 new cars, and your car is likely to smell bad and run like shit. Don't do that.

Removing the EVAP canister will not cause your car to pollute 20-40 times more. The EVAP is for capturing gas tank vapours that are created due to drastic changes in temperature. Sure leaving it open to the environment will cause fuel vapors to enter the atmosphere, there would be less escape into the atmosphere in a week than there are when you pump fuel into your vehicle.

And this will have no adverse effects on the operation of your vehicle. it will not run like shit. As far as smelling bad..... all these cars smell bad compaired to brand new engines....lol to be honest with you, My 2004 Grand Am has all of the emissions equipment removed, including the cat, and I love the smell of it. Smells like pure naturally aspirated horse power.

Well put - this is what I was thinking but didn't type it out earlier.

Except that the fuel vapors in the gas tank that are displaced when your refuel your vehicle are also captured by the charcoal canister. That is, if you haven't removed it.

The canister captures fuel vapors that are generated during changes in temperature (even small changes in temperature produce a surprising amount of fuel vapor), that are created due to heating of the fuel when the engine is running, and are displaced from the fuel tank during refueling. In total, these vapors constitute 1-2% of the fuel consumed by the vehicle. It's equivalent to pouring about a quart of fuel onto the ground every time you refuel.

Removing the catalyst is even worse. You are increasing HC and NOx emissions by at least a factor of 10.

And for what? There is no performance or drivability advantage to disconnecting the canister or for removing the catalyst instead of replacing it with a high-flow catalyst. And not only does this contribute to air pollution and toxic chemicals, it is, in fact, illegal.

Oh, right, you like the smell.
