So something odd happened the other day. My '90 LX has a surging idle whenever the clutch is depressed. A fairly common issue that I've yet to remedy as I barely ever drive the car. I understand the need to do a vacuum leak search, clean or replace the IACV, etc. I drove the car for the first time in a couple months the other day and decided to get on her pretty hard because (let's face it) it's fun even if they're not exactly rocket ships stock. So I wind her up to almost redline in first and shift to 2nd. I catch a check engine light so I back off and depress the clutch. No surging idle. In fact it's dead set at 1500 rpm, not even a hint of a waver. It's like this all the way home. Park, kill it and fire her up again. No Check engine light and the dreaded surging idle has returned. Anybody know what's happening here?

ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!
Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956
Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)
Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.
These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.
1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.
2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.
3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.
4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.
The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.
The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

First thing would be to pull the code (it should still be in the ECM memory). Surging idle many times is the Fast Idle Thermo Valve (FITV): http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=20601290 LX 4dr 5 spd 396,014 (sold 1/1/2022) - MRT: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=201450

Just use the blue service connector that is located under the dashboard on the passenger's side.
There are links on here about how to do this.
Put a paperclip in the connector to "jump" it. Turn the key to the on position.
Then you will see the Check Engine Light blink. A long blink indicates the first number of the code (10). The short, quick blink represents the second number of the code (1).
