Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Road / Tire Noise - is this normal?

Ok so I have a super low mileage cb7 (my first honda) and I just replaced the tires (Kumho Grand Touring tires 45k mile warranty). So far I have put about 450 miles on the car/tires - but the road noise is BAD - kind of a WOM WOM at anything over 30 - but the car rides and drives perfectly and smooth - got a 4 wheel alignment with the tires too...

My question is - should new tires be this noisy - or should I take it back to the shop? It does seem to be better after a few hundred miles but still LOUD - but like I said car cruises at 90 fine and smooth, just with what I THINK is a ton of tire noise.

Can't really compare it to the old tires as they were the originals and dry rotted and I never had the car over 35 before the new tires...

hmm what you describe sounds like wheel bearings to me. are you sure the car didn't make that noise before you got the new tires?

sorry i just figured id throw that out there.

On a sidenote, i would think hed notice before cuz i knew like RIGHT away its a very distinctive sound. but its not like womp womp, its like a whurring sound when i stop. Not when its driving and it gets worse when i turn the wheels and corner. Sucks ass but i dont have the money to fix it yet but maybe xmas!

Doesn't happen at low speeds or turning, and stays pretty consistent at all speeds above 30 or so...I just didnt have enough time with the car to have noticed it before I got the new tires. I will take it to the shop next week and have them drive it - I don't think I will be able to get over there this week.

lol i had a problem with severe vibration and a whirring sound that could be described as "wom wom wom" starting at around 30 or so kinda going in and out all the way to 80. i did the rear disc conversion and found out that the left rear bearing on my original setup had run completely dry of grease and the bearings were totally burnt out. The sound gradually gets worse and worse as the bearings lose their lubrication, maybe his just started doing this...

can i have them check anything in particular? it does seem to come from the rear more than other areas but its very hard to tell, it kind of seems to come from all the way around.

search google for the actual model # and the term "road noise" to see what others have said about how they sound. from what ive seen, most ppl say "little to no road noise" as far as the kumho touring tires go

might want to bring it back to the shop and see what they say.

yeah i called the shop and they said these kumho's should be really quiet, so they want to drive it at 10 in the morning. i had a little suspension work done on the drivers side rear when i got it so maybe its something they missed. i will hopefully know tomorrow!

i had some suspension work done on the wheel where the bad bearing was, they replaced it with a junkyard control arm/wheel hub - the junkyard bearing was bad (so was my original). i trust the shop and they installed the bearing with no charge for labor and had me out of there in an hour.

oh and they kindly hooked my cruise back up - they had forgot to do it when they changed the timing belt!
