ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

    Rough shifting...

    Hey,

    I have a 92 Prelude (f22a1).

I've noticed the shifting is starting to get pretty rough.

It's most noticeable when I shift into 2nd. It kinda feels like it's Grinding, there's no grinding sounds or anything, it just "feels sorta tough" getting it into 2nd. (I hope I'm describing this well enough)

The other gears don't do this, but they don't feel very smooth.

I changed the tranny fluid probably 5,000k ago, it felt pretty good at first, but it didn't last very long.

A few weeks ago I decided to check the tranny fluid. I drained a small amount out and it looked ok I guess.

I put in a small amount of 10w-30 and some Lucas Tranny stuff...

After this for about 3 days it felt super smooth, and shifted great, but then it just degraded and now feels like crap, as I have posted above.

I will also mentioned that the odd time, my gears "pop" out when I pull out the clutch, but not very often.

I use regular 10w-30 motor oil like it says in the manual.

Should I try something else? Like 10w-40? Honda Mtf? Synthetic?

Can anyone shed some light on this? thank you.

    Dave

well i just changed mine the other day and it shifts awesome...but its an automatic lol....maybe that lucas shit made it worse cuz i have heard a few bad things about them lately....

ive never owned a manual and it sounds familiar but i could be wrong......but r u suppose to be using motor oil in place of tranny fluid...that doesnt sound right....honda makes mtf......so i would suggest draining and filling with Honda mtf as our transmissions are very picky about their fluid.

If NOTHING else, just drain it and put in genuine Honda MTF...try that first, then go from there.

maybe that synchro is going bad?

try that new Honda MTF that's suppose to work like Synchromesh from GM.

Ok fellas, I will try changing it with Honda Mtf and see if that helps.

I'll post a follow up after a week or so with the results.

          Appreciate the help

Honda didn't make MTF then, it was just 10w30 oil.

Yeah, search and you'll see many people prefer Honda MTL.
Some people like something else(such as the Syncromesh), or a mix (I've had good luck with half honda MTL and half RoyalPurple Synchromax).
There are a few (very few) people who like or have no problem with the 10-30 motor oil, but most (me included) hate it.
Like Sully said, they didn't make the MTL back then.

Some seem to think then new Honda fluid will beat all the others. That would be nice, so I hope they're right.
