ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

    Cold Air Intake???

Is A Cold Air Intake Overrated? Or Is A Regular Box Housing For Your Stock Engine Equivalent To A Cold Air Intake? I Guess What Im Trying To Say Is, Is The Cold Air Intake Really Worth The Price?

To me it is worth the price if you get a good one with a breather with it. Because you know if its a cold air intake that means the filter is supposedly mounted right in front of your passenger tire. And if you hit a puddle what do you think the intake is going to do. HYDRO LOCK. But if you want a little power adder without having to worry with that I would recommend a short ram intake which stays inside you engine bay. But Don't go cheap cause remember you get what you pay for.

I do think that a bypass helps. BUT, I dont think that AEM/Iceman etc.. are worth the extra money, unless you need to pass emissions and dont want to have to swap the stock stuff back on for it. IMO, an ebay one for 30shipped works just as well as a name brand for 199shipped.

By just swapping out the intake, you will notice a little bit better throttle response, the car will sound a little meaner, and if you drive it the same way you did before, you should see a gain in gas mileage (not all that much... but it will help).

I think cold air is great! Especialy in the summer. I wouldnt run it without the plastic piece that goes under the fender though. i will act as a shield for the water or anything else.

Yeah! I just bought an eBay cold air intake system for $35.99 shipped. Can't wait till it gets here.

The only difference is if you are in California or another state that looks for CARB Legal stickers on aftermarket parts....eBay intakes are not CARB Legal.

Well basically repeating what everyone else just said, I say its definitely worth it. Short Ram/ Cold Air doesnt matter. Got mine off ebay at that for 28. I got a short ram, but now I shouldve gotten the cold air cause of summer. But no biggie, the short ram pays off in the fall and winter as in cold air does the same vice versa...

its worth the price if you get an ebay cold air intake and stick a nice filter on it.

not worth it if ur getting like a 250 dollar aem cai. 5 hp for 250$ = dumb IMO

a pipe is a pipe...i dont see the point of spending 200 bucks cause the pipe says aem ....unless like mention before u need the c.a.r.b. thing....get a cheap intake form ebay and buy a good filter(not cheap)..as far as cold air vs short ram

                INTAKE:

Short-ram Intake: Less surface area, less airflow friction, more prone to engine bay heat in original form.

Cold-air Intake: More surface area, more airflow friction, cooler air intake charge, quicker to diry filter, prone to water ingestment.

i took that from the all motor info log in performance tech

i run with a AEM cold air intake and i love it, when you are running those rpm's its just awsome i would suggest cold-air but thats just me, you do have to be careful with the water getting in it though like everyone said

I paid for the AEM back when I was first swapped. It's nice to have a quality name brand, but if I knew then what I know now, I'd get a cheapie. The good ones DO make more power, but it's not enough to justify quadruple the price of a cheap one.

My sources say short ram is for high end and cold air is for low end.

I experienced both and I feel it leans to be that way. I dont know if someone can back me up on this one. That's all from what I experienced.

Finally this is a thread that has not gone off the subbject.... I was able to do a little research and I found that the cold air and the short ram both have their drawbacks and both have there advantages. So when it is all said and done it's just gonna be a matter of how much you are gonna wanna spend. So spend well and be happy cause no matter what happens you are gonna gain a few horses no thing big so...Thats just what a noobie thinks.
