ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

    inner tire wear

    i tried to align my car today at work cause i was getting front inner tire wear in the front my toe angles in the are 0.01 and 0.02 and the rears are also almost to 0 degrees but my front cambers are -0.08 and -0.12....could the camber cause the inner tire wear or is it something else?

    Yes it is the negative camber that often causes the inner sides of the tires to wear more quickly and therefore unevenly.

      yeah but the camber is only off by -0.08 and -0.12 thats almost invisible to human eyes

        If bad camber is visible to the human eye, it's REALLY bad!

        Negative camber combined with the poor toe alignment would do it. As would improper inflation of the tires.

          Camber isn't really a big factor in tyre wear unless it's accompanied by significantly incorrect toe, (or the camber is fairly extreme, or perhaps if you're running very wide tyres at a high psi, and / or very low profile). Neither your camber nor toe angles seem that bad to me (assuming I'm interpreting your numbers corectly). Are you sure you have no worn suspension components?

              I would dispute this. My car has 1.5° neg camber on the front, it's easily visible if you look, but not obvious.

              I've heard a number of people say they've used up to -3° and claim no great camber wear problems, and -3° is really obvious at a glance. Not that I'd recommend 3° for a road car, does seem excessive to me, but then I haven't actually tried that much neg camber...

                This is what I was told buy an alignment specialist after I ran a set of tires for a year without rotating them. I went in with this same problem. He told me that Accords factory specs for alignment are set this way. There settings will wear on opposite sides of the tire from font to rear. It's set that way to help with handling. That is why people who don't rotate there tires on a regular basis see aggressive one sided tire wear. if you were to rotate them regularly they would ware evenly on the inside and outside.....

                  I suppose you're right. -1.5 isn't that bad (I usually ask for -1 when I get an alignment to help keep my UCA from banging... visible, but not terrible. Wear is moderate) -3 is quite excessive. On a road race car, perhaps it'd be good... but the wear would be horrible, I'm sure!

                  I don't quite get that, since the angles would be the same no matter what. Well, maybe front to back would prolong things... but still. Rotating the tires makes sense, but I don't see how that would prevent inner tire wear.

                    From what this guy told me the Honda specs for the front suspension is set with toe in for better grip around corners. The rear is set with the toe out to keep the rear planted when cornering. That is why the fronts wear faster on the outside and the rear wear faster on the inside, Or vice versa, I can't remember what one was what..... It made sense the way he explained it maybe I'm missing something in translation......I'm not a suspension guy...

                      That's a possibility... does that mean that when your toe is corrected by a professional, that is changed? Or that proper toe readings would still result in a slight toe-in in the front?

                        Not 100% what your local alignment shop will set yours too.

                        Here are the specs strait from the Honda shop manual.

                        Camber
                        Front = 0°00' +/- 1°
                        Back = -0°25' +/- 30'

                        Caster = 3°00' +/- 1°

                        Toe
                        Front = 0 +/- 3mm
                        Rear = Toe in 2mm +/- 2mm

                        I don't know what to make of these numbers. I think My explanation was backwards but that's to be expected. Last time I talked to the guy was over a year ago....

                          well tire wear does not only depend on ur car's setup , a big part of it comes from the driver too. I have seen people go through new set of tires in a month on a stock road car.

                            i know a guy thats kinda like an old hermit/guru when it comes to car tunning (road or road race), his advice was that as long as you dont go crazy with the toe, camber isn't really your enemy... AS long as you make sure to evenly wear all the tires....i.e. rotating tires more frequently.

                            i agree with Bootleg, the driver is a bigger factor when the car is aligned properly... assuming nothing behind the scenes is at play.

                              The only time I've ever had inner tire wear with ANY car was when I had failing ball joints. This caused a SEVERE negative camber issue, in addition to the fact that the front end felt like all the suspension fasteners were lose. The truck wandered like crazy and cornering was downright scary.
