    Reflective hood bottom

I was wondering what I could use under my hood to reflect my engine. Basically I want the bottom of my hood to be a mirror so that when it is propped open you can see the engine reflecting on the underside of the hood.

Has this been done before and how ?
Would I need a special mirror to withstand the heat ?

Any ideas or input would be great.

Im not sure on a special mirror to withstand the heat but I do know there are people who have cut out pieces of mirror to fit inside under the hood between the "frame" of the hood. Goolge Images, Underhood mirror and you'll see what I mean.

I saw a Camaro Z28 with mirror plates under the hood and thats what got me thinking. I love the look and would love to do it myself.

Lowes and Home Depot both sell fairly lightweight acrylic mirror material in large sheets that are about 1/8 inch thick.
Make some cardboard templates of the space between your hood frames, trace them onto the acrylic, cut with a Dremel (or a razor knife and some patience; you can score and snap it, but it's going to need the edges filed to be smooth and curved).
Attaching them to the hood is another thing. You definitely want a decent adhesive, but also one that doesn't shrink or distort as it dries (the acrylic will flex with it, giving your underhood a funhouse mirror effect - I speak from experience with the acrylic and adhesive, not with the underhood use)

Thanks for all the info. My engine looks mostly stock but everything I paint is black and so are my wire looms. I am searching the jy for a hood in good shape because mine has a huge dent right in the middle of it from where someone ran over he top of my car (? ?), or thats what it looks like. Any ideas what I should use to attach the mirror to the bottom of the hood ?

Well its a unique thought but it really doesn't hit me as a very sensable nor a very cool idea.

looks ok if the rest of the car is done up... in my opinion wait till most everything else is done before attempting...btw this guy who did this is in the upsstate ny area. maybe hit him up to see how he did it...
