    Electronic Rust Prevention

*Repost from blackout of December 2011, I still need your opinions.

Alright so I've done a bit of research and I've decided I'm going to grab one of these. I need it badly for the Canadian winter and the roads in Toronto are heavily salted over winter. I am just wondering if anyone has experience with models.

I know there is the CounterAct model that's been around for ages and is on sale locally for $200.

Then I found this, RustStop RS-5.

    1) What electronic rust systems are out there other than CounterAct & RustStop?
    2) Which is your favorite model/brand? Explain why please.
    3) Installation, how does it wire up and where is the best place to mount it?
    Current:

    Past:
    1992 Honda Accord EX-R Sedan - RIP

I'd think you'd have to order from them. Or call up local places. I all know the CounterAct model goes on sale for $199 sometimes at Canadian Tire. Next time I'm getting it for sure.

I have something similiar installed on my car, that came with it... its called a "Rust Evader", I honestly can't say if its helped at all, as I do have some rust on my car. I probably need to aquire new anodes for mine (I think thats what they are called).

I have also heard reports that these systems do not work in an automotive environment, as they were originally designed for ships, where the hull is constantly submerged in water, and it plays a part in the function of the system. Our cars unfortunately aren't submerged in water, so I believe the effect this system has only works when the car is wet, once its dry, I don't think it works anymore.

My rust evader I believe is the "classical cathodic protection" type, here is a line as quoted by RustStop:

Q: I have heard that cathodic protection will only be effective if the metal is submerged in water and is ineffective in dry conditions?

A: That is true for “classical cathodic protection” systems. RustStop® RS-5 uses an advanced dual protection enabling protection in atmospheric (open air) conditions. Instead of relying on the electrolyte (water) to surround the anodes and vehicle, a current is impressed onto the vehicle through the special graphite based, open-cell, partially conductive tape, forcing the electrons to flow though the metal and towards strategically placed positively charged Rust Magnets™. The Rust Magnets™ corrode and the corrosion process is interfered with. See “Why RS-5 works” for more details.

^^ This sounds promising, whether it works? Only time can tell.

        Heres my "Rust Evader":

Pardon my dust as my cb has been garage parked for over two years, and heres the life support system:
