    Racing seat woes...help

    Hello all

I am 6'5'' and 250lbs. I've started looking into aftermarket racing seats. I've sat in a few seats in the past and I've never been satisfied. It seems the seats I've sat in are meant for the "average joe," the bolsters and thigh supports are always too narrow. Also the seat belt holes are never positioned correctly on my shoulders because I'm tall.

I've done some searching and can't find any real information on how a racing seat should fit a customer.

    1. What seats do you recommend I look at?

    2. What are the pros/cons of a fixed racing seat vs. a racing seat with adjustable back

Hypothetically speaking...I have no price limit.

Sparco "Wide America" should work out about right.

I had a Sparco Speed, but unfortunatly I was a little too uh .... wide.... for it. (5.6" 200lbs).

hmm, yeah I'll look into BC. It's hard to tell what kind of seat will fit right without actually sitting in them.

Here is a measurement guide for Sparco seats. This type of info is usually available from every manufacturer on their webpage. Sit on a chair and have someone measure you and compare to the seat chart.

Even if you get all the measurements down there's nothing like actually sitting in a few seats to see what they're like. Something like a seat isnt' something you want to buy without knowning exactly what you're getting. It's like buying pants; the measurements may match up but they still vary from brand to brand.

If I were you, I'd see if there were any performance shops around the area that are authorized dealers of any seats and go try some out. If not, see if you can find some people in your area that already have some seats and just ask to sit in them. People aren't that protective of their cars.

Another thing to note though. When you first sit in a bucket seat after sitting in a normal seat forever everything is likely to feel pretty tight. You do get used to it. But yeah, that only goes so far. Just something to keep in mind.

How can a racing seat have a weight limit of 220lbs? Seems odd...

the style matters too. the closer to "real racing seat" you get, the less comfortable and forgiving it will be

something else to watch for is the front of the seat and how firm that is. some seats will make your legs go to sleep because of the front cushion being too firm.

unless you're actually racing, go with something with an adjustable back in the "touring" category (usually called that) because they're more comfy and fit more people

can't beat being able to sit in it first but that's not usually possible
....and on the 7th day, deevergote rested and called his mom.
