    Pioneer AppRadio

So I just ordered this from Crutchfield.com:
    http://www.crutchfield.com/S-SDR5wuP...-AppRadio.html

Some reviews were great, others not so much. It doesn't really matter to me, though. I'm going to put this in my new '02 coupe and see how well I like it. It apparently comes with everything I need to get this thing installed as a hands-free hub for my iPhone. It doesn't play CDs, but I don't care. Supposedly there's a way to utilize navigation through my iPhone's GPS but the unit comes with its own GPS antenna also. I'm not really sure how that works but I guess I'll find out.

A question I have deals with steering wheel controls. Will I need a separate controller? Usually I'd think so but it does say something about a harness specifically for steering wheel controls in the "What's Included" section. Either way I want to wait until it gets here before I buy anything else just to make sure I buy something compatible with this.

What got me was the price. I don't need this to do a whole lot. I like listening to sports radio and this will still allow me to do that. My speakers are all upgraded with Alpine Type S except for the front tweeters and the factory radio does a horrible job of getting any sort of decent sound to them. The RMS output on this is nothing to write home about but possibly it delivers bass to the 6x9s a little better. If not, oh well.

That's dirt cheap. I would assume that you would need something specifically for YOUR car, but maybe you can program the appradio to accept your cars controls or something of the sort. I say wait till you get it then figure out if you need any additional items.

            GOOD LUCK.....

we have had a return on every one we have sold. they are junk. great price on that one though. be ready to update it weekly.

steering controls are not included....you may need the pac swi-ps if the metra aswc will not work....but i suggest the aswc if it will work....we have had issues with pioneer using the aswc though.

At first glance I was interested in this however it only has 2 channel pre outs. 2 volts. And I assume the face is motorized but I can't find that info anywhere. I think I will just search some more.

Keep us updated on how well this performs.

The face is not motorized. There's nothing behind it for it to expose. This unit does not have a CD/DVD player at all. That's part of the reason I like the idea of it.

To all those who responded or chose not to with negative feedback, believe me, I've read it. If this thing was not $150 with all of the installation equipment included I wouldn't have bought it. However, at this price it's nearly worth it for the bluetooth hands free calling alone. I almost strictly listen to ESPN radio in the car so no CD player is not an issue at all. The only thing besides quality or realistic functionality I'm unsure on at this point is the navigation integration from the GPS on my phone. Some things I've read seem to indicate that Google maps (I'm still on iOS5 for this reason) will display itself on the AppRadio device through a third party application. I'm just not going to assume anything until it's here and installed.

For now it's going in my CG2 and I'll decide if I like it enough to upgrade to the 7" model for my '93 coupe based on how I feel about it.

My only complaint so far is that it seems to hamstring me to my iPhone 4. I was entertaining the idea of a Galaxy SIII but that can wait for now.

Mine was not a complaint. Just that in my accord if it doesn't have a motorized face it makes it hard to see it, since the radio is so far down. And I have a four channel amp.
I do like the idea. I never use cds but like you said for 150 it can't be that bad.

This. I've installed them with the ASWC and it has worked on all so far. I actually like this unit, I have an older avic D3 and the nav is starting to have its issues that they are known for. This is all I need, and I'm not running an audiophile set up in the cb. And I get it cheap. lol

also, the new version is better quality I've noticed, and also supports android devices, so you can go with an S3.

I have one in my wife's 02 accord coupe. She likes it, only problem is the new lightning cable phones won't work when we upgrade our iPhone 4S to the new iphone 5.

Pandora, hands free calling, navigation and media player are great features.

To those I said I would give my opinions on this to, I still haven't installed it.

Darkfusion42, are there any functions at all that aren't working on your iPhone 5?

so far, anything with video out, but I tested it today to be sure on a new unit and it needed a firmware update so I dont know if thats fixed. So nav unfortunately doesnt, but any audio apps like pandora and i heart radio work flawlessly. Also, I dont know if it matters but I use the lightning adapter with the cord, I hear the regular one doesnt allow ipod out.

really the better option is android. It uses usb and hdmi for that.

                            :EDIT:
Actually, just came across this news from pioneer:

To use the iPhone 5, the AppRadio requires Apple's Lightning-to-Digital-AV cable and a Lightning-to-USB adapter connected to a new CD-IH202 connectivity kit, which links to the same digital connections on the AppRadio as the Pioneer's Android MHL connectivity kit. Meanwhile, a Bluetooth connection transmits X&Y touch coordinates from the AppRadio's touch screen to the AppRadio app running on the iPhone 5 to enable bidirectional communication between the two devices

I'm gonna go ahead and retract that, I now realize you posted the old appradio. I was referring to the appradio 2.
