For the most part you all have caught on without this post, but there have been a few habitual offenders that forced me to say this.

Here's my last report from Blackstone Labs. It shows the most recent test along with two previous ones and compares to industry standards and my sample averages: Oh and the previous two samples were both Mobil1 5w30. All three samples with Purolator PureOne.

I think the extremely high moly level in this oil(detergent) may be why my aluminum levels are higher than normal....?? What in the engine is aluminum that wears? Cam journals?

I'm currently running RP 5w30 with Amsoil synthetic filter. Plan to put 6,000 on it and send in a sample. I'll try to post results when that time comes (~1500 to 2000 miles to go).

And that mobile one synthetic isn't really a synthetic...but again...I can only say that's hear say...castrol is a good price so I just go with it. I've had good exp. with it...but again...that isn't really saying anything either.

That's the hard part about TRYING to research oils. Typically, you'll find that the higher priced synthetics are "better" but only because these tuners with high horsepower apps are running them...Bisi has one he uses...and other tuners that are well known have their own that they use (royal purple, amsoil). But what do we have to REALLY show THOSE are that much better? How much better? In what ways? They have to be better than in more than just one way or in just one application.

Granted...if respected tuners with loads of exp (like bisi) tend to use a particular manufacturer...you can bet there is a reason...but what if that reason turns out to be funding or sponership? That does not make that "part" any less "good" but you have to think. Still, if you aren't sure and don't test your own stuff then it would prolly be good to go with those...but I like to KNOW for MYSELF and not hear say or "trust me on this" kind of info...some things you do have to do that but...I don't think oil should be one of them.

What you can't find is some form of data showing how MUCH better these oil are in comparison to say...castrol synthetic. I don't like going off of just word of mouth "personal exp." when it comes to oils. There doesn't seem to be ANY basis of comparison for synthetics, just pricing and opinions...neither of which actually means anything really.

I'm sure some oils are better for some applications, and sure some oils are such "great" oils that for a dd or moderate build they are unnecessary...but they are still "better" (by that I mean they are superior in that they prevent wear and cause less parasitic lagging...and other things that make oils good). Yet this "data" doesn't seem to exist or be easily found...I haven't anyway.

I guess the only way is to make your engine a guinea pig and risk running and oil that will not protect as good as the next oil you test...seems that is the ONE thing everyone agrees on. Just don't start your tests with crude generic no name oils

all of that is very true. people and companies coming on TV saying "I use this kind of oil in my 5,000hp race car." doesnt mean a thing to me. its oil that was made specifically for that application. doesnt mean i can use it on my 140hp DD. it would be pointless. yeah sure you can say "well if he can use it on his high horsepower car, why not in your DD?" because for that simple reason. my DD isnt a high HP track car that needs the motor to be rebuilt after every race.

im with you tho. ill have to do my own assessment of different oils. i wouldnt mind using my motor as a guinea pig. lol. i got a spare one in the shed again. ill be trying these different oils and seeing how much difference there is. and trusting the words about different oils from companies like Bisimoto, NASCAR and others isnt something i can do. like you said, they have sponsors and really have to advertise for their sponsor. not saying those companies are liers but why would anyone want to spend on oil for their DD that a 8-9 second car uses?

explanation for those who arent science experts? lmao.

so you switching to RP has caused LESS wear on different parts of the internals?

Just wanted to mention that I use RP for my Accord but lately after a bit of research, I've been using Castrol Syntec in my wife's Taurus as a quality "budget oil", still not the cheapest. No oil analysis from that car yet though, I'm just trying to preserve it until we can afford a newer Acura.

so whats going on with the accord? you still using RP in the F22a? did it eliminate the valve train noise like some have experienced?

I've done a good bit of research on analyzing the analysis, haha. The heavy wear metals are listed towards the top and show the units per sample (not sure exactly what their "unit" is, but it's a standard value/volume. Looking at my most resent sample:

              ALUMINUM:
Higher than my other samples but on par with universal averages. Not sure why it's increased unless the extreme amount of detergents in this oil is washing some aluminum particles out of sludge inside the engine???

              CHROMIUM: Piston Rings
Piston ring wear material, on the norm with other oils and universal.

              IRON: Cylinders, pistons, crankshaft, camshaft
The bulk of wear metals in the engine. Components such as the cylinder walls, crankshaft, camshaft, rods, etc. As the test shows, even though I put MORE miles on this RP than Mobile1, Iron levels were cut almost in half......a HUGE plus for RP.

              COPPER, LEAD, TIN: Bearings
All point to the condition of bearings such as crank and rod bearings (really the only ones). Again the RP protected against bearing wear much better than the Mobile1 did as can be seen by a much lower particle number.

              MOLYBDENUM, PHOSPHORUS, ZINC: Lubrication
Phosphorus and zinc levels are higher than previous samples, significantly higher considering the greater number of miles on this sample. The big one here is the Molybdenum which is a very effective lubricant additive and RP shows much higher values of moly still remaining in the used oil.

NICKEL, SILVER, TITANIUM: Some bearings, rings, trace metals
Evidently our F22 engines have very small amounts of Nickel, most likely in the rings. RP showed no ring wear over a small amount from the Mobile1. Our engines do not contain Silver or Titanium components.

              MANGANESE: Gasoline additive
None in this sample, most likely dependent on what brand of fuel you use.

POTASSIUM, SODIUM: Antifreeze, or oil additive
Found in antifreeze and some engine oils. I'm assuming in this case it is an oil additive since my Antifreeze % on the bottom has always been 0.0%.

              BORON, CALCIUM, MAGNESIUM: Oil detergents
Detergents and Disbursement additives. These lovely substances clean up our engine and neutralize contaminants such as fuel and antifreeze. Evidently RP relies more on Magnesium than on Boron and Calcium. According to the wear metals above, this is a better choice. RP+

SILICON: Dirt that gets through the air filter
Not exactly the Oil's fault but a good oil filter plays a part in being able to filter this out. It's worth noting that I changed from K&N air filter first sample, to Ebay special second sample, to Apexi Power third sample. The Apexi shines because I have yet to clean it, this third sample, the filter had ~15,000 miles on it and still performed favorably as opposed to the other two filters with fewer miles.

              BARIUM: Detergent in oil
Another detergent/disbursement. Evidently neither Mobile1 or RP uses it.

The bottom portion is pretty self explanatory. It's worth noting that the RP retained a "median" viscosity of 57.0 even after 4,888 miles. The Mobile1 was able to do the same at 3,000 miles but increases significantly by 4,100 miles showing that the oil was quickly reaching its "must change" point.

Strange that the flashpoint of RP was less than Mobile1. Maybe due to the fact that it had many more miles on it. Not really worried about it though because if my motor oil gets up to 360 degrees, I have other issues to worry about.

Definitely still using RP. Over Mobil1, it smoothed out the engine noticeably, especially high up in revs. It may have reduced valve train noise some but my PS pump is so loud, I can't hear much else in the engine bay.

Oh and Blackstone's "units" or numbers listed is in parts per million.

It would be interesting to see how many oil-related engine failures we, in the CB7/9 community have experienced; this discussion makes it sound like we're fighting off a plague, but other than extreme neglect the F-series engines are hard to kill! ...I run synthetic 'cause I'm too lazy to change oil every 3mos, actually went 1.5 years on Lucas 5w30!

i 2nd mobil1 sux esp for what they charge for it. ur better off using walmart brand or pensoil haha.

i dont think royal purple does all that it claims to do BY A LONG SHOT .... BUT i have seen engine internals of cars running this stuff for a long time and they were super clean

Castrol FTW i havent tried amsoil but i kno its xpensive as fawk but im sure it kix ass
