Please DO NOT Post In The General Section

From this point on until otherwise briefed, posting in the general section of Performance Tech is prohibited. The only thing to remain here will be the stickies. We would just delete this section, but that would cause unintended results.

The majority of the threads created can appropriately be placed in one of the Performance Tech sub-forums or Technical; and the posting of them here is detrimental to the activity of said forums. If you have any questions about where you need to place your thread PM me or one of the other mods.

For the most part you all have caught on without this post, but there have been a few habitual offenders that forced me to say this.

Everyone will get a couple of warnings from here on out, after that I just start deleting threads.

Again if you have any questions, PM me or one of the other mods.

    F22 Counter measure pistons??

Has anyone heard of F22 counter measure pistons?
I found some 85mm pistons at work and was told they are a counter measure to eliminate the well known F series piston slap.

Obvious external differences were - A black coating on the skirts - I assume some sort of teflon coating.
And the biggest difference - low dish. Which means they should be higher compression depending on wrist pin height.

I'll have to grab a set next week and see what I find, and post some pics.

Also of note in this thread:
Has anyone fitted F20 Sohc pistons/rods to an F22?
F20 pistons (low dish) were 9.0:1 compression for memory.

F22A1 rods (centre of wrist pin to center of rod journal) are 140mm long.
F20A3 rods (centre of wrist pin to center of rod journal) are 145mm long.

so the f20 will be out of the hole 5mm?

never heard of counter measure but the teflon coating is a good thing.

Work has been crazy this week, so I completely forgot to grab a set.

I'll have to confirm how far the the F20's stick out when I build the new F22, but yes in theory they will stick out 5mm, which takes me back to an OLD thread debate about using 4G63 pistons in the F22 and them being 4mm too short. I have to recheck that thread to confirm weather it was too short or too high.
I can't understand how it's been over 15 years and only just hearing of a counter measure piston now

Perhaps its weight is on the rotating side?
So it rides along on side of the cylinder wall?

Are you referring to the reason behind piston slap?
Piston slap occurs because the pistons are actually oval not round.

I've never heard piston slap on any stock f22

Either way, I think the pistons would be in the hole. The compression of the f20 may be 9:1, but that could be due to it's stroke/rod length and not so much the piston.

And the DSM pistons DO lay in the hole quite a bit. This can be offset by using H22 rods.

really? it sounds like a diesel in the morning.

cb7man is talking about the weight of the piston may be offset so it can counter the power of the crank. notice when you look at the cylinder, one side will wear more than the other side.

which is why putting k series pistons are controversial because they spin the other directiopn.

All f-series I've seen have it, Some are worse than others. But they all have it.

Both of my F22s (A1 and an A4) have piston slap. They sound like diesels on startup, and I know it's not my valves, because I recently adjusted them.
