Please DO NOT Post In The General Section

From this point on until otherwise briefed, posting in the general section of Performance Tech is prohibited. The only thing to remain here will be the stickies. We would just delete this section, but that would cause unintended results.

The majority of the threads created can appropriately be placed in one of the Performance Tech sub-forums or Technical; and the posting of them here is detrimental to the activity of said forums. If you have any questions about where you need to place your thread PM me or one of the other mods.

For the most part you all have caught on without this post, but there have been a few habitual offenders that forced me to say this.

Everyone will get a couple of warnings from here on out, after that I just start deleting threads.

Again if you have any questions, PM me or one of the other mods.

    Engine Class

I'm taking an engines class and I have the change to do a rebuild. I would use the school equipment to do the valves and whatever else need to be done.

What im worried about though is cost, What all would I need? I'm gonna give myself a $500 limit that i would rather not reach. Just all the gaskets and seals? I'm looking for an estimate from someone who has done it before.

Also I don't even know where to get pistons or rings or any of that stuff from

rebuild kit is on ebay for about 500$ i dont think ull spend any LESS than 5 esp if you are doing pistons etc.

If your going to be that tight on the budget, and you want to do a rebuild, as you already mentioned I would replace every last seal/gasket throughout the motor, piston rings, rod bearings, wristpins, timing belt, and water pump. Use your original pistons. Aftwards you should have one happy and healthy motor that should last you another 200k+ miles with little to no troubles if regular maintenance is done. Good Luck

Get all your rod bearings from the site above, and any other oem parts/gaskets you'll need at the same time, to save money on shipping & handling. So make your list and check it twice!

For a headgasket set, get one manufactered by "Stone", which is the company that makes/provides the "Ishino" head gaskets for Honda. Google around for the best prices. (Ishino literally translates to Stone in english fyi)

That is my recommendation, but you can always use cheaper and/or lower quality parts, but I believe in the saying "Do it once, and do it right".

type JIS engine gaskets in a search engine. Their kits are pretty good and affordable. Be sure to prefit the headgasket as I have seen some mis-sized ones, but their other gaskets and belts work fine. Their rings are good just make sure the "N" faces up. They have alot of other items that I haven't used.
