Hello all, For a few months I have been having a really annoying drivetrain grind. (sounds like its from the driver side)
The grind only happens when the brakes are applied, and when the engine rpm's are dropping. (it may do it while rpms are increasing, but I haven't tried)
It will grind with or without the clutch engaged, but will do it worse if the clutch is engaged.
It also seems very specific about the rpm's it grinds at, mainly between 1700 and 1500, and around 3000.
It is not a prolonged grind, sort of a quick grind then it goes away.
I can feel the grind in the clutch pedal more than the brake, but I am also pressing it all the way to the ground when this is happening where the brake pedal is not.
Heavy and quick braking seem to reduce the grinding, and if I put the clutch in and let the engine go to idle before braking no grinding occurs at all.
My first thought was that it was brakes, but after replacing them, I still have the same issue.
I am doing both axles, and if I can find one that gooks good at a junk yard, the half shaft tomorrow.
I was really hoping it was going to be the bearing in the half shaft, but it looks good to me
Anyway any other ideas are appreciated.
The wheel bearings were replaced with new hubs when I did the brakes, and as stated earlier the grinding existed before the brakes were switched.
I have an lsd m2b4 transmission and am really hoping the problem does not lie with it. It shifts fine, and eveything seems to work just dandy when I am accelerating / when the rpm's are not changing and I'm not braking.
