Please DO NOT Post In The General Section

From this point on until otherwise briefed, posting in the general section of Performance Tech is prohibited. The only thing to remain here will be the stickies. We would just delete this section, but that would cause unintended results.

The majority of the threads created can appropriately be placed in one of the Performance Tech sub-forums or Technical; and the posting of them here is detrimental to the activity of said forums. If you have any questions about where you need to place your thread PM me or one of the other mods.

For the most part you all have caught on without this post, but there have been a few habitual offenders that forced me to say this.

Everyone will get a couple of warnings from here on out, after that I just start deleting threads.

Again if you have any questions, PM me or one of the other mods.

    h22a4 block

My rings went last night on my h22a4 block... im going to replace them but im also thinking of replacing the rods , pistons and bearings but my problem is my block has no oil squirters ..can that be the cause of my rings? Jw and also does any one know what kind of pistons can handle a block with no oil squirters?

Why were the oil squirters removed? The help cool the pistons. Not sure that it would have anything to do with your rings or not. You will be able to tell for sure once you tear the block down what the cause was. Could be your piston ring lands that went......

If your block is still running stock FRM sleeves. The only piston and rings that will work in your block are the ones that are made for FRM sleeves. OEM H22 or Mahle are your choices.

I bought the car years ago off a friend it had an h23 head with a h22a4 block i think thats why he took out the oil squirters .. But the car ran perfect and fast.. I was wondering will these pistons work http://item.mobileweb.ebay.com/viewi...id=58531354785

I don't see why they wouldn't work, the description lists everything. It mentions a Teflon coated side skirt but nothing about being FRM compatible. I guess you would ether have to ask them. Or assume that they are compatible. Just remember, you usually only get what you pay for! When it comes to internals and tuning, cheap is very rarely the best option.

Not sure why putting an H23 head would require removing the oil squirters, but too each his own. I would put them back in if it was my block. I always wondered why people removed them. I don't see any benefits. Unless you are sleeving the block or going for a longer stroke. Then you have to remove them.

I'd be careful how far I trusted the seller in that respect. But if your rings went out on FRM sleeves I'd open it up and check it out before I ordered anything. If you have gouges in your walls then you need to resleeve or get a new bottom end.

also, if the rings went due to the sleeve surface being worn. You will probably need to go up to a set of OEM 0.25mm OS pistons and a proper FRM hone anyway. Not just any hone will do! A shop that regularly works on Porsche engines will know what they are doing.

ive opened up a worn h22a4 block and the sleeves were toasted. not even going .010/.25mm over would clean it up. just a little precaution.

I'm with those guys. What I would recommend as another option is using Darton Replacement Sleeves. Supposedly I've heard they're OEM strength or slightly better. You could go forged pistons and have more power when you drop it back in.

White smoke is coolant not oil. Should do a compression test on your cylinders and or a cooling system pressure check.
