Please DO NOT Post In The General Section

From this point on until otherwise briefed, posting in the general section of Performance Tech is prohibited. The only thing to remain here will be the stickies. We would just delete this section, but that would cause unintended results.

The majority of the threads created can appropriately be placed in one of the Performance Tech sub-forums or Technical; and the posting of them here is detrimental to the activity of said forums. If you have any questions about where you need to place your thread PM me or one of the other mods.

For the most part you all have caught on without this post, but there have been a few habitual offenders that forced me to say this.

Everyone will get a couple of warnings from here on out, after that I just start deleting threads.

Again if you have any questions, PM me or one of the other mods.

    Should I try....

I'm not sure which forum this belongs to but anyways.... I was thinking today about fiber glass and carbon fiber... I was thinking of designing and building a lightweight sports car with fiber glass and lightweigh aluminum and/or steel metal. Maybe a mid-engine with a V6 engine and a custom all-time all-wheel drive with an prelude 5 speed manual. I know I might get flamed for this irrational and impractical idea, but like to be different from everybody else. I have an endless list of idea and can work around most problems with some creative thinking, I need to learn some new skill for this possible project such as welding and laying fiber glass, but I will have a bunch of time to learn.

    Caleb

PS: Plus wouldn't it be cool to design a car that weighs less than 2000 pounds and a turbo setup with a built V6 down the road? I'd have to say it would be fast!

I would say go for it if you have
              1. Paicience (sp?) you're screwd if you don't
              2. MONEY - for that project you have to have a budget probably somewhere around 20-30g's
              3. Experience - Gotta know waht the hell you're doing
              4. Friends in the business that can help cut costs.
              5. TIME - If you don't have 4-5 hours a day right now, getting a car will not help

I don't think it is impossible, heck, anything is possible. But don't underestimate the above listings

That sounds like something that is close to impossible. Why waste your time and money on something that your not sure will work out in the end?

I have a little project at home right now where I am making a custom, aluminum chasis vehicle that is powered by a motorcycle engine and drivetrain....just a one person, mid seated design. Not as big as an automobile but it is costing me a few thousand to build... You'd better gain some experience in areas such as welding, fabricaion, vehicle design, mechanical engineering, and money management. You are looking at aproximately a build cost of 50 to 80 thousand with your custom car (mostly becasue of the aluminum construction, carbon fiber and your custom drivetrain) My advice...start researching and honing your skills now...in a few years you may be ready to start this project.

I probbly use fiber glass instead of carbon fiber... cheaper and not much different in weight.

Plus carbon fiber is hard to master. I have a friend who works with it.

I think as a cb7 project we can get everyone together, get a cb7 chasis and we'll make it fast and shit. We'll all chip in to make it happen and hook ups!!!

Well I'd going for it, worse thats going to happen is:

                        1. U crash and died ( I hope not)
                        2. it will not work so u part it out to make some money
                        3. U Can Do It!!!!!!!

                        -Henry

Great achievements result from great effort

Uh...thanks for the encouragement, seriously. So it's gonna cost some money right? Well, maybe I should lay the idea aside for a while until I master some fabracation skills, then maybe I'll resume!

You know I saw this post the other day, and was in the midst of a response, and we lost power.

I've worked with fiberglass all my life. I've glassed boats, surfboards and built molds ..
Molds for alotta diff things .. Molds are costly .. costly to build.. and costly when they fail ..
and alot fail .. lol ...
Specially supporting that drive train .. just the math alone is enuff to blow my mind ...
And there in lies a huge expense for the many different needs that you'll require ...
The molds could be used again and again tho .. thereby cutting costs for future production..

I'd like to say tho .. take a look at every year of Corvette ever made .. or even the De'Lorean ..
The Vettes are alotta glass.. and the De'Lorean's are a *mid-engine* .. which was also built
                            using alotta *brushed steel*.
