From this point on until otherwise briefed, posting in the general section of Performance Tech is prohibited. The only thing to remain here will be the stickies. We would just delete this section, but that would cause unintended results.

The majority of the threads created can appropriately be placed in one of the Performance Tech sub-forums or Technical; and the posting of them here is detrimental to the activity of said forums. If you have any questions about where you need to place your thread PM me or one of the other mods.

For the most part you all have caught on without this post, but there have been a few habitual offenders that forced me to say this.

Everyone will get a couple of warnings from here on out, after that I just start deleting threads.

    Sequential Sportshift

Anyone ever drove a Lude equiped with this? Is it any good? I'm wanting to know if which it's closer too:

Manually shifting an auto like ours

    OR

    A slower shifting manual.

I have reasons for inquiring about this, lol. TIA for feedback....

i've driven a few of them,(triptronic) it's really a mix of auto and manual into one. and it's pretty acurate. it shifts only when you toggle it up for up shift and down for down shift.

IMO from driving my friends its not as sensitive. Theres still a bit of lag time when you bring it up to rpm from what I noticed. He has a 99 tiptronic stock. It just allows leaving it in gear and all that crap. either way its still only 4 gears i thought they would at least make it a 5

my mom's 03 TL is pretty acurate...it still shifts pretty sluggish compared to a stick, and by no means feels like a manual. also, it automates the shifts from 1-2 and 2-1 to avoid overreving so its sort of lame.

Damn, that kinda sucks. I was *hoping* it'd be closer to a manual. I've got a trashed left knee and was looking at this as an alternative, lol, but it sounds like I'm just gonna have to gut it out and do a manual swap, lol. Thanks fella's.

You wouldn't want that trans anyways. It's the single biggest complaint about 5th gen preludes. 80% of them die when the car is completely stock, and they all die when you get any of us tuner type people driving them more agressively than a normal person will. Plus they will automatically upshift before the rev-limiter.

Rob, I would definatly stay away from these.. There is a guy in my Auto Shop class that just bought one a month ago, with a rebuilt tiptronic tranny. I rode in it with him once, the response time is really lacking, and like already said, it controls the downshifts to an almost obsessive extent.. Oh yeah, and he has already managed to tear it up and he drove it like a grandma when I was with him and everytime I have seen him around campus.. Later

honestly if its not like a mercedes or bmw where the tiptronic shift are accurate and crisp, they really do suck

plus why would you want a tiptronic 'lude , that h22 is begging for manual tranny swap

somewhat agree here. although i was thinking more of exotic cars. those are on-point!!

anyways see for yourself. watch the video @00:51 second. watch the gear selector change from 3 to 4 and see how long the tranny lags.

well the preasure plates on the tranny are build at such preasure that it should deliver a smoth shift when its in automatic mode. so if you swich back to tiptonic (semi manual) you are using the same preasure plates. when you shift, the gear won't engage for a sec or so. all cars have it. bmx, mercedes, etc.
in order to get what you want, you should take the tranny to a speed shop that rebuilds trannys and they will change the preasure plate and a few things some electronical boxes etc so you can get the right shifting time.....
i read this on a bmw site.... its supposed to be very big in racing back in europe and i can see why.

Not just europe...The Sequintal trannys are very populart in other places as well.A lot of race cars have them.In some cases when built up and worked on they can actualy shift fster than a manuel and you cant miss gears. They are usualy used on high end race cars though.I dont see how a CB cant be a high end sports car.

There are no pressure plates inside auto trans as I recall at all...Yes there are plates that grip but those use hydraulics. So basically changing out those plates doesnt do much. You would be better off modding the valve body where most of it takes place. BMW/Mercedes/Porsche/Audi and all that there sportshift seems a lot more sensitive than Hondas. Especially with bmw and there new gearbox design and such for there M class car. The only reason why some of them "lag" is to make the shift transition somewhat smoother.

I haven't driven a BMW or AUDI or what ever but I have driven a Toyota...And I have to say the 2005 Toyota MR2 Spyder Sequintal tranny is very smooth and with very little lag time...I loves me Honda and Toyota

                            very true.
i do not remember what you change on the tranny. but i do rememer it had somethign to do with preasure/electronics etc. i was researching this about this about 6 or so years ago when i wanted to import and audi from germany.(family conection). but at that time most of the speed shops that knew a lot about what i wanted were located in west coast. (not much help for me)...
most of my research was on bmw sites one particular bemmer.com or bemmer r us.com do not really remember. but the modds in that site were the best. they answered every noob question that i had...

i would love to have a trannyl ike that on my cb7. i would gladly spend a couple of thousends of dollars just for the tranny.

Usually all you can change on an auto are clutch packs, accumulators and valve bodies. To quicken shifts, you change accumulators. To make them more solid you change the VB, and to make the trans last longer you change the clutch packs and torque bands.

I don't think it would be worth it honestly, lol. I'm pretty good on the clutch still, just need to wear a brace during autox or somethin, lol.
