Please DO NOT Post In The General Section

From this point on until otherwise briefed, posting in the general section of Performance Tech is prohibited. The only thing to remain here will be the stickies. We would just delete this section, but that would cause unintended results.

The majority of the threads created can appropriately be placed in one of the Performance Tech sub-forums or Technical; and the posting of them here is detrimental to the activity of said forums. If you have any questions about where you need to place your thread PM me or one of the other mods.

For the most part you all have caught on without this post, but there have been a few habitual offenders that forced me to say this.

Everyone will get a couple of warnings from here on out, after that I just start deleting threads.

Again if you have any questions, PM me or one of the other mods.

    wastegate spring question

its a 38mm turbonetics evolution wastegate with a 9 psi spring. if the turbo setup is for 18psi what do i do?

i called turbonetics and a tech said that i would use the 9psi spring and just ut a boost controller?

the turbo set up is going to have a boost controller so is what he said safe?

if its not then does a tial spring fit this wastegate?

The boost controller will set the boost (technically the wastegate but the controller will allow you to set it higher). When it reaches that amount I would think it somehow opens up a valve or allows vacuum to travel into the WG letting it open (havent seen an EBC cutout so not sure). I am not sure about the tial spring fitting which it probably wont, but using the boost controller is fine to monitor with a lower rated spring. Its a nice fail safe when you need it too.

The lowest amount of boost you can run on a car is determined by your wastegate spring.

You can raise this boost as high as you want with a boost controller (although boost creep and tapering will get worse the higher you go with a single 38mm WG), but you can never lower the boost BELOW your WG spring.

If using a manual boost controller, the MBC will mount in line with the air flow to your wastegate spring. This MBC will restrict the air flow to the WG spring, which requires more boost to actually get TO the spring and open it.

I believe that most electronic boost controllers will mount in line, as well as on the top portion of your wastegate. (tials have 2 nipples on them, upper and lower) The Upper nipple will come from your EBC and put additional boost pressure in the top portion of your wastegate, making the spring work harder to open up and release pressure.

So, you can either buy additional springs to run combinations that will manually get you 18 psi (but you can not run lower than that) or you can buy a boost controller which you can change much easier to run any boost you like, as long as its over the 9 psi spring.
