Please DO NOT Post In The General Section

From this point on until otherwise briefed, posting in the general section of Performance Tech is prohibited. The only thing to remain here will be the stickies. We would just delete this section, but that would cause unintended results.

The majority of the threads created can appropriately be placed in one of the Performance Tech sub-forums or Technical; and the posting of them here is detrimental to the activity of said forums. If you have any questions about where you need to place your thread PM me or one of the other mods.

For the most part you all have caught on without this post, but there have been a few habitual offenders that forced me to say this.

Everyone will get a couple of warnings from here on out, after that I just start deleting threads.

Again if you have any questions, PM me or one of the other mods.

imho, the phone should never be answered when driving.. but thats just me...

huh? i think you might have this slightly confused....

    1) a transmission is a power multiplier. let me explain:

at 2k rpm the engine has 200 lbs. so for evey 2k rpms, of output, this amount of power is "generated". lets compare some generic gear boxs.

    gear/ratios/rpm@wheels/power multiplied
    gear box 1

    1st/ 4:1/ 8000/ 800
    2nd/ 3:1/ 6000/ 600
    3rd/ 2:1/ 4000/ 400

    gear box 2

    1st/ 3:1/ 6000/ 600
    2nd/ 2:1/ 4000/ 400
    3rd/ 1:1/ 2000/ 200

**for those that don't know, the higher the ratio the shorter the gear**

    2) power band itself is not effected by the transmission. the power band application is effected by the gear ratios (transmission), refer to above if your confused between the two. shorter gear equals more applied power.

so in conclusion, (provided you have traction) a shorter gear box will be better.

    agreed, at the very least.

turning it off is the same thing as locking it. i am sure you have heard of someone locking the vtec system. if your like me, then this would be the same as turning the entire system off. why? cause if you look at what vtec truely is, it has to switch cam profiles to be considered vtec. other wise its just a really big lobed "non-vtec" engine .

    No, I don't own a CB7, but I do own a F22A6 and a B16A trans. All going in a 90 integra sedan .

They must be some of the most incompetent tuners ever. You should stop hanging around them, they might pass the stupid on to you.
maybe they are using a afc and have no control over high cam fuel?

      either way, FAIL.

no not confused just worded wrong my bad...

with his torqy motor, he will not need a short geared transmission to propel his auto from a stop, considering it's turbo and and he will have an evo 3 the longer gears will make for some great highway pulls. and still be perky enough to not constantly be in boost driving around town.

that is annoying more than anything in a auto,,

based on the length of that post, i doubt it. and seeing your response to my post, makes me doubt even more.. but thats off topic, so i'll just let it all go.

this is the only other part of your post that i have issue with. there is proof otherwise to your blanket statement. but again, not really on the topic of this thread so away it goes..

I say go H23 and boost. And as far as auto vs. 5 stick goes, there are pro's and con's to each.

            5 speed:
            Pro's:
Solid link from crank to wheels.
Is stronger than auto because of it being a solid link.
Less hassle over time because there's nothing inside that can "slip" unless you are making serious power and break the gearsets, at which point you should already know a lot about what you're doing.
Less % power loss through manual trans.

            Cons:
I've seen several diffs fly apart and ruin a trans in the H/F trannies.
Takes some getting used to if you only drive auto.
            Synchro's DO wear out.
Something silly such as a broken shift cable or running out of clutch fluid can render your car undriveable.

            Automatic:
            Pro's:
You stay in boost once its spooled until you let off the throttle.
            Easier to drive.
Fewer gears = more distance covered per gear. (fewer shifts = less wasted power)

            Cons:
            Weaker
More likely to stop pulling or drop a gear.
Not a solid link between crank and wheels.

That's how I look at it.
