    Best transmission for turbo set-up...

I was wondering what the best manual transmission would be for a full turbo set up, 400-500hp. I am converting from auto to manual and want to do it right the first time. I was looking at buying a "new" transmission from syncrotech.

How much HP can the stock transmission handle? They also offer custom gear rations and final drive.

    What do you suggest?

    Thanks

Your stock transmission can hold that power... but the synchros are probably worn out by now. A new or rebuilt transmission would definitely be smart.

As for gearing, that really depends on you, and what you want from your setup. There really is no generic "best" gearing for every turbo setup. In general, people say that longer gears are better, so you are spending more time in boost per gear... though today's fast-spooling turbos make that less of a big deal. This is something you're going to have to research on your own, and decide what you want from it.

400-500whp to the front wheels will make getting traction a pain in the ass...

Make sure you get limited slip on that new trans....

Thanks Deev - Yeah Synchrotech has LSD's, I will have one put in. I am also upgrading my suspension so I won't have the "wheel hop" so famous by front wheel drive

Oh, you'll still have wheel hop. You'll just be putting power to both wheels, rather than just one! LSD isn't necessary, but it certainly helps.

At that power range Your gonna have bad traction issues. LSD will help, a traction control bar will eliminate almost all wheel hop. Also a h22 tranny is just gonna cause it too spin even more. Like deev says it all depends what u want it for Nd your engines powerband is very important.

Controlling wheel hop also depends largely on suspension, too. If your springs and shocks aren't in good condition, and properly matched... the wheels are going to bounce like crazy. OR, if the suspension is too stiff, the wheels will break free on rough pavement (people don't understand that a 'race' suspension isn't always better for a street car...)

The more power you make, the more you have to take into account EVERYTHING in the car.

Also if I'm not mistaken the stock LSD Trans can't fit the aftermarket ones. So it would be best to get a non-LSD one and customize it to your needs. Probably would save you some bucks as well as F22 stuff is normally cheaper than their H22 counterparts.

I see youre in bremerton. I know a little about H22 trannys. Im in Seattle, and build them. LMK if you need help, or email me your number and ill give you a call.

Joey is right. Stay away from M2B4. Get a H trans and put and OBX in it. Mine has lasted 3 years, just a couple simple trix to make them legit.

Ive built a few H trannys in my time ;O). Stay away from F trannys for the H. The ratios suck, and the 3-4 hub is smaller (weaker), among other things...

                  For the F, I would do a H23 (M2S4) trans...

I wouldnt buy a "new" trans from syncrotech (not badmouthing them as they are a SOLID company) but its unneccessary. 4-500 WHP is about the MAX for OEM gearsthough (Putting you around 320-375ish TQ, which is the real limiter, not HP). I strated stripping the teeth straight off the gears at 380-390 TQ, but my car is heavy and HOOKS

I'm a real fan of long geared transmissions, But i also like the highway pulls much better than a light to light type race. A fast short geared car, looks rediculous when the same powered car pulls from it on the interstate.
But then again, I'm a fan of automatics in what people call ricers. To my knowledge they have longer gears than any of the 5 spds do. in these cars that is.
One day i may have to get another cb7 and boost the baby, a stock lx automatic transmission with shiftbox hooked to paddle shifters we are in the works on creating. Would be a really fun drive.
For whatever the reasoning, I really want a H23 stock bottom end mated to a f22 head and a lx auto, boosted. Man that would be fun. I dream.

wow that sounds awesome, paddle shifters, like a Ferrari or BMW! I don't think it would e that hard since most of what is causing the car to shift is just a signal anyway. Maybe use the H22 LSD transmission. There is a guy on here that has a boosted auto with the LSD H22. Cool project!

You may want to look into the prelude H23 transmission (M2S4). This may be your best stock transmission for the prelude opposed to the 5 speed accord trans. It is my understanding the prelude H22 vtec trans provides to much torque and causes alot of traction issues.
