From this point on until otherwise briefed, posting in the general section of Performance Tech is prohibited. The only thing to remain here will be the stickies. We would just delete this section, but that would cause unintended results.

The majority of the threads created can appropriately be placed in one of the Performance Tech sub-forums or Technical; and the posting of them here is detrimental to the activity of said forums. If you have any questions about where you need to place your thread PM me or one of the other mods.

For the most part you all have caught on without this post, but there have been a few habitual offenders that forced me to say this.

Everyone will get a couple of warnings from here on out, after that I just start deleting threads.

    sleeves

does anybody know where to get some just stock sleeves for the F22A because i think they are cracked on a motor I got laying around. I tried looking around and all I could find were the darton sleeves. I wasn't too sure if the price they gave was for one or the whole set of 4. I just want a stock replacement. A simple and cheap fix hopefully because the rest of the block is in excellent shape !!

    I don't think it's a crack. I think it's some heavy scoring.

I say we bore it to 86mm and see if its still there.

If it is a crack, I'd just replace the block.

X2 throw in a 2ndhand block - It will work out alot cheaper.
Are you sure its cracked - I'm sure the above 3 posters would agree its pretty hard to crack the F22 sleeves.

            It's my f22 block. It's his now.

Anyways, it has some pretty deep scoring in cylinders 1 and 2. I have no idea how that happend. All I knew until now is that cylinders 1-2 didn't hold compression.

Whenever we get an engine stand, I'll take the motor apart and check the pistons/rings. I'm just wondering if a 1mm deep scratch would cause it to lose complete compression. I'm thinking there's more that we're not seeing.

Rusted block, or pulled straight from an assembled engine?
Strange for scoring to happen, what did pistons 1&2 look like, any traces of picking up on the bores?
1mm deep? Yes it will lose compression.
When you say complete do you mean 0psi?

It held 20psi or so, then leaked. The other cylinders held 160psi.

This was my rebuilt f22. The block came from someone I didn't even know. Not sure how many miles were on it or the condition of it. The head was fucked, so I threw that away and used a rebuilt one. The motor was honed at the machine shop. The crank/rods were in good shape. The pistons looked fine, to me anyways.

Now thats strange, all this work, then a 1mm scratch has happened?
the oem ring gap is 0.20mm, if you opened this up a further 1.0mm (from the scratch) I would imagine the compression would be very low ( equivilent to a ring gap of 1.20mm)
A cracked ringland results in a compression of about 70-90 psi.
So It's highly possible the 1mm scratch could cause the low compression.
As to what caused the scratch very odd indeed.

If the ring gap is to small it will score.

                      How so?
Is that because the ring would not be able to correctly shape to the bore thus the tips of the gap leaving the score mark?
Though that would lead me to see 2 score marks from each of the tips.
Don't mind me, I'm just thinking aloud.

yeah, it had 1 mark, about 3 inches long in the centerish of the cylinder(vertically). All ring gaps were specd out to stock.

well... i think its a crack. But further investigation has to be done to be sure. Oh well... looks like we may have a boat anchor again !!

Because we already have this one and we're trying to see if its salvagable. Blocks around here aren't cheap. Plus...we'd still have to have it machine for either bigger pistons, or just a hone.

Plus, we're trying to figure out if we want to do anything with it just yet
