Please DO NOT Post In The General Section

From this point on until otherwise briefed, posting in the general section of Performance Tech is prohibited. The only thing to remain here will be the stickies. We would just delete this section, but that would cause unintended results.

The majority of the threads created can appropriately be placed in one of the Performance Tech sub-forums or Technical; and the posting of them here is detrimental to the activity of said forums. If you have any questions about where you need to place your thread PM me or one of the other mods.

For the most part you all have caught on without this post, but there have been a few habitual offenders that forced me to say this.

Everyone will get a couple of warnings from here on out, after that I just start deleting threads.

Again if you have any questions, PM me or one of the other mods.

New Header = No Heat Shield. Problem?

New Header installed today. DC Sports. I've got the a4 engine btw. Anyways, obviously any aftermarket header does not enable you to put the heat shield back on. Do I have to be worried about it burning my compressor, alternator, or power steering pump up because of the increased underhood temperatures? That's assuming that there really is a considerable increase in underhood temp. Is there? Could anyone help me out with these two questions. I know each item as a heat rating and Honda certainly didn't put those heat shields on for looks, so it must be to protect those components listed. Or am I be over-cautious?

FYI: the pipes came to me without any cermaic coating so I painted them with VHT header paint (primer, color, clear) and completely baked each layer on as VHT prescribed.

    Please help!

    Thanks a bunch!

everything will be fine, theirs millions of people that have bare headers. you could wrap them with header wrap it helps some.

you can heat wrap the header. I wrapped my DC header and noticed a dramatic decrease in engine bay temps. People say it'll crack the welds and blah blah but I never experienced anything bad after doing so. About 30-40 bucks to do it properly w/ the Thermotec exhaust wrap and snap straps.

Must ask that does it have any kind of practical effect if you wrap those or don't? Have been wondering also that heat wrap but don't know if that really matters. Ofcourse we don't have as warm as you do in the States but still....

I saw a youtube vid of a guy in an all motor civic, he made 12hp to the wheels:

so it helps somewhat, not that much in our stock engines but I'd say 1 or 2 maybe.

I was also thinking about wrapping them. The only thing I'm afraid of is some of the things ya'll have already mentioned: cracking the welds, ect, ect. Mine is already painted. I've heard not to mix those two as one tries to help the heat escape, and the other to keep it in. The two combined work against each other? We'll see though! I might order some header wrap the next time I have to order something else from Summit (Like my glasspack for my cat replacement )

I'm running an a4 header with no shield on my a1, only problem I know of is my intake pipe gets hotter than shit. I'll be wrapping it as soon as I find the motivation so pull it off.

if you crack a weld, you can always re-weld it.
