I have a 92 CB7 with a jdm H22a and its a 5-speed. It started sputtering when I'd give it gas but it would run ok when I was going at higher speeds but when I'd come to a stop it would stall out on me. The gas would cut out when I would press the pedal hard. Then within 2 miles it just got worse and worse until it wouldnt run at all. It turns over but wont start and it backfires on average about once everytime I crank it over. It did this to me about 2 weeks ago but it went away the next day. Basically I'm thinking the timing is off and I need a new timing belt. After several tries to get it to fire the battery died. Then I tried my girlfriends battery and it would crank over but still wouldnt start. Then I noticed sparks coming from the starter on the outside of it and the car would stop cranking everytime. So I went and bought a new starter and it was cranking again but not still not firing up and its still backfiring here and there. I just replaced the wires with ngks and the plugs are about a year old. One thing I will say though, I have a carbon fiber hood with vents in it and it rained real bad the day this all happened and some water leaked onto my motor and under my spark plug cover but it didnt get into the spark plug chambers. The time this happened 2 weeks ago it also rained pretty hard. Coincidence or not? Because what I'm thinking is if the timing is causing this then how did it go back to normal when this happened to me two weeks ago? Could it be a bad coil, main relay, distributor or plugs maybe? Anything but the timing belt haha. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

sounds like it's your distributor or fuel pump, can you hear your fuel pump kicking in when you turn ingition on? could also be main relay.
Check if you have spark, and just to make sure check your timing, first cyl at TDC line your cam gears with head marks and see if it line-up on the flywheel marks to the block marks.
Let us know what it was?
