    Help. Overheating..

well i finally got the motor running good and i was happy with it, fixed all the oil leaks and all. now ive got another problem. i am constantly putting coolant in my motor and it is still overheating after about ten minutes of driving. and my coolant is disappearing but i have no leaks. my guess is that it is the water pump. can anyone help me? thanks.

also, when the motor started to get hot, it started jumping while accelerating, like it was missing...

hopefully it's not a blown head gasket. do you have lots of white smoke coming out of the exhaust? if you don't have smoke, then you do have a leak somewhere.

i'd replace the thermostat also since it's cheap. later.

If there are no leaks then it is burning it. If there is no smoke then you have a leak.

but if i needed a head gasket, wouldnt it be leaking out of the sides of the motor? and if my head gasket is good, how am i burning it?

check your oil to see if it has coolant in it. later.

After the Thermostat was put in, was it bled properly?

                1. Fill the radiator, turn the car on, let it idle for 15 minutes or until the fans come on.
                2. Loosen the bleed screw on top of the thermostat housing slowly, until you see either bubles start to come out or a stream of coolant.
                3. Repeat a couple of times, drive around some, and do it one last time.
                4. Let the car cool, and make sure the radiator is full.

Pressure test the system cold first with the car off, watch for external leaks. Especially on the driver's side water pump area. Pressure test your cap too. Then get the car warm(not hot), hook up a pressure tester, load the system, start the car and watch the gauge. If it drops slow your HG is leaking, or the head itself is cracked, If the gauge drops immediately and fastlike the HG is toast.

the head might also be warped... I hope thats not the case

The HG can be cracked between a cylinder and coolant passage and not hit the oil or leak externally (at least not at first). Though the one I've seen leaking like that wasn't sucking coolant in, it was pushing cylinder gases into the coolant, and the coolant reservoir was constantly overfill and leaked every time the engine heat cycled

NOW...thats rare! I have seen that before..but thats rare.

                        ( to the OTP ) " Georgia93coupe "

in any case actually...replace the HG...get the head shaved or resurfaced. ( for a NEW mating surface of the head.

and use NEW head studs! you stated it overheated..so 9 out of 10 those studs have heat stress. replace those head studs and end bolts for a good seal with the new HG and resurfaced/shaved head. ( remember torq it down to spec. )

oh yeah...DO NOT use 12 pointed sockets....you have a HIGH chance of stripping those head bolts...use the 6 pointed sockets for the most grip.

                          thanks for the info.

the only reason i dont think its the HG is because i have no smoke from the exhaust. i need to check my thermostat though. i am going to bleed it the right way also. haha

that does sound somewhat like my problem. my coolant overflow is always full and i lose coolant everytime it gets hot. like it will be topped off, then after it gets hot and i turn it off and open the cap i can see the fins inside the radiator.

i have the same problem but i know mine to be a very small hole in radiator ... look for green corrosion anywhere on radiator mine loses enough to see fins over a week but i dont do a whole lot of driving ... it is either leaking or burning no 2 ways about it ... well i guess your thermostat could be bad if your water is getting hot and the thermostat isnt opening it will boild over into the resavoir tank ...
