    Affordable Torque wrenches?

I have all Craftsman stuff but their torque wrenches are expensive, like 80 a piece and they dont cover those under warranty so that isnt a benefit to get them.

I was looking at Harbor Freight and they sell Pittsburgh brand clicker wrenches for only 15 bux.

seems like a good deal, Im no mechanic so they are only used for small time jobs. and even if they break, im only out 15 and not 80 at a time.

    what d you guys think?

I want to do my valves and I need them to be torqued to the proper specs. Im also getting a bike this summer and everything needs to be done properly so things dont start falling off, haha

I think if it fails and gives you an incorrect torque reading, you'll strip out some very spendy aluminum bits on your bike or car.

Harbor Freights torque wrenches are complete shit. Save up for a quality one, trust me.

Snap-On.... even matco and mac wrenches are inaccurate. I have the 1/4", 3/8", and 1/2" drive electronic ones... I've never had a head gasket or intake manifold gasket come back on me. Or a wheel bearing for that matter.

snap on and craftsman are on a completely different level. craftsman is shit compared to snap on.

WHat torque range is the 80 one? i dont think its the one that you want. Make sure its ft-lbs and not in-lbs.

A good competitor IMO is the Husky one from home dept or lowes for $70. I wouldve bought that one if my dad didnt already have the snap on one i get to use.

I like the Cobalt one I picked up at lowes. We use them at work and they seem to hold up well. As long as you don't abuse the thing, they even hold their calibrations very well (they get calibrated every 12 months at work).

My craftsmen wrench did not cover the range I needed for the higher torque applications. But my inch pound wrench is a champ!

Craftsmen are far from being shit...common misconception.

Granted though, there are some things I would not buy from craftsman, but there are also things I would not buy from snap-on, same with many tool companies.

Key here is...don't cheap out...get the clicking type, don't get the gauge type, make sure your 1/2 drive wrench covers the higher ranges you may need (harmonic balancer bolts i.e.)

Like a few others said....don't cheap out on something as delicate as a torque wrench. I've used Snap-On and love all their tools and they stand behind everything they make. Craftsman would be the absolute lowest grade i'd ever go on a torque wrench and then i'm still sceptic.
