    Engine Restore

Has anybody heard of this stuff that comes in a silver can? It comes in 4 and 6 cylinder versions i think and its a blue liquid you add to you oil. Does it help at all?

is it an oil additive(like lucas) or is a crankcase cleaner?

The crankcase cleaner DEFF. CAN hurt a motor if used improperly. Read and follow all instruction step by step, and in the alloted time. Sometimes those products actually have acid in them to clean stuff. Ok for short periods of time, but starts to eat shit if left too long.

It thickens the oil and 'conditions' friction prone parts of the engine. That's it. Nothing special.

isnt it supposed to also help with oil leaks? i dont rememebr the name, but it was a silver can with a pull-tab opening and it had thick blue liquid in it. used it in our old corolla and the small oil leak it had was gone.

its just an oil additive, but i would have read the directions anyway, just to be safe....

Ive used it, but I dont see much of a difference... maybe a half mile per gallon more per tank, but thats all Ive noticed. Nothing majorly wrong with the engine in the first place (except that damn confusing sound) tho, so..

My gf... well, ex now but thats an entirely different matter, used it in her El Camino and its running almost like new, getting 20+ mpg (not too shabby for a 22 year old pushrod V8, huh? ) The oil leak isnt nearly as bad now as it was before she started usin it, but thats not just an oil problem.. so yeah, its definitely good for an old, worn out engine.. still wont hurt tho.

if thats the case, i would suggest NOT using it in a good conditon engine. It REALLY thickens the oil, and therefore wont be good for a motor with good/tight clearances.

If the motor has 200k. miles, or is an older v-8, then why not. Nothing to loose, and in many cases it helps a lot.

All Restore does is increase the viscosity. Just buy a higher weight motor oil and you get the same effect. I have used a product called "stopleak" and it worked well for about two oil changes.

engine restore is not to help oil leaks, nor is it a viscosity improver. It is supposed to fill nicks and scratches in the cylinder walls to help improve cylinder to ring seal, improving compression. Couldnt tell you if it truly does as advertised.

My dad and I use this stuff on his 85 toyota 4 runner and it seems to help it not burn as much oil. That and we don't know where it's all going so maybe it's something else. It wouldn't hurt and will probably help promote longer engine life. JMO though.

                          dont use it.

i used it and finally stopped.

its loaded with lead and metals, it is supposed to restore compression and power...but man it works for like 1000 miles then after that its gone.

dont put any additives in your oil. some may have adverse affects that you dont know of.

see the problem is putting that stuff in, it bonds with stome things but then u do it again and again and it is bad....

i use www.auto-rx.com for my car. it sounds shitty and a gimmik but alot of people tried it on www.bobistheoilguy.com and have evidence that it works...and i like it....i used it 2 times thats it, my engine felt a WHOLE lot better...and quieter.

and its not an additive, its a cleaner =)

oh try not to use oil engine cleaners in the motor...sometimes those hurt old seals causing em to not seal any more....

thats why i used this stuff, gentle
What makes me laugh about forums, is that no matter how much you try to help someone, they dont take the advice. Go ahead and do it the hard way.

You got to respect what you drive, and appreciate what you have, making the best of what you got. and if that means putting CAI, HID's, a phat stereo system, and a idiot in the drivers seat...then so be it!

are you guys talking about engine oil additives?
i dunno if XADO is considered that?
i had my doubts at the begining but it seems to work pretty good.
my car doesnt make as much noise and has quieted down my engine a good amount.
i am currently on my second tube and i am gonna do at least 3 or 4 tubes of this stuff.
