    Header help needed.

    Ok
so I bought a header off ebay for $60
Please don't flame me for this... I know it does nothing to my performance... I needed the downpipe mostly because my stock one has a huge unweldable crack in it and I needed something cheap...

I got it in fine, but I could not get the bottom bracket that screws into the block up there...

The biggest problem is the front edge of the downpipe scrapes the frame while the engine is under load, but not just revving in N.

It sounds like pure crap when it vibrates against the frame.

What should I do here? The guy that helped put it on suggested grinding down part of the frame, but not so much that i go into the spot welds.

Anyone else with ebay headers have this problem?

grind/sand the edge of the frame just a little, not too much. safety first.

try to assemble the DP and header before you bolt it to the cylinder head and cat. Just loosely handtighten the nuts/bolts together. Then snug them up once the upper part of the header is torqued down and the DP is connected to the Cat. conv.

But yeah, you asked for it! Ebay header's don't have much R&D into them, so fitment issues are almost always common.

Probably nothing to do with ebay. The car is old and chances are it was hit. Check your motor mounts to.

No, I don't think it was hit. I'm the second owner, and my mom bought the car from a guy who said its never been in an accident. (he was our neighbor so we trusted him)

                  It may be the mounts.

I know us autos have the variable rear mount. I think this is why it only scrapes sometimes.

Can I put a 5spd rear mount In? (its fixed right?)

I have yet to go back to the shop and try to refit it...

OK here is my front mount,

It kinda looks busted to me, the rubber "discs" beside the wishbone are equal with the metal. Is this how its supposed to be?

my ebay header rear mount didn't line up so i just left it alone , i hammered a bit to clear the frame in the front other than that i'm good.

You can't tell anything from this picture. Peel back the rubber discs and look at the inner portion of the mount. If the rubber filling (I don't know what it's called) is broken in such a way that it separates the wishbone and mounting bolt, the mount is bad. If the mount is bad, it will be very loose when you jiggle the wishbone.

i was looking at the position of the thru bolt in relation to the top of the mount.

mine was in the exact same position and the rubber inside was torn
