    Temp Send Unit Info.....

This is information I found out changing my temperature sending unit for the dash gauge.

While sidelining my car for a few months, the temp send unit went out. I bought one at the local auto store, "Standard" brand and installed it. The original problem was that the temp gauge would just go to hot and peg out. So I installed the sending unit I bought and it worked, except that it would actually show the temp of the engine going up and down as I stopped at lights and then began moving, which was fine except that the stock unit never did that. It would go to where it always did and be happy. So I then went and bought a factory send unit to see if it did the same thing as the new one. It didn't, it performed just like the original. The cooling fan acted the same with either send unit installed.

So my question is, what have others experienced? I'm keeping the factory unit in because it works like the original.

It means the aftermarket unit was more unstable than OEM - Not as accurate/fluctuates in resistance more.
Btw your original problem of the gauge shooting to hot is caused by a short to earth - Probabally an internal sender fault

Thanks for the reply Demon, makes sense to me. Nice progress on your mini truck, even if the steering wheel is on the wrong side.
