    Transmission code 2

I've been having a ton of issues with my automatic transmission lately, but I got a new TCM and every thing is fine now, the car drives and shifts like normal, except my car won't shift out of park unless I put a key in the shift lock release slot. I checked the transmission code and it was 2: Shift Lock up solenoid B

Would a malfunction of this solenoid B be a cause of the shifter itself locking, or should I look elsewhere? My brake lights are fine by the way.

It certainly would be. The shift lock solenoid prevents you from shifting the gearbox into certain positions unless the brake pedal is depressed. You should obtain a wiring diagram and start diagnosing.

Thanks. If the solenoid itself is bad though, shouldn't replacing it directly fix the problem?

      Also, I found this thread:

      http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthre...+lock+solenoid

Based on that, pulling off the solenoids and cleaning them might fix the problem too.

That link isn't for the shift lock solenoid. I think that's for cleaning the torque converter clutch (lock-up) solenoid, which are two completely different things. The shift lock solenoid is on the shifter assembly inside the vehicle.

EDIT: If the solenoid is bad, you will have to replace it, but, as I said, you will have to diagnose the circuit(s) with a multimeter or some other electrical tester. It may have a voltage, continuity, or ground problem.

Yeah, my transmission code 2 is for the circled things

In that thread they are talking about solenoid A which is code 1, and mine is solenoid B, code 2.

I just want to know if that going bad can be an indirect cause of the shifter not coming out of park or not, like as a safety precaution. Sorry if I worded my question poorly.

No, actually that was my fault. I misread the statement and I apologize. Those solenoids are either for automatic shifting between gears or for locking the torque converter (if equipped). I honestly can't remember. A failure in those solenoids should not cause the shifter to freeze. Is this the only code you have?

Yeah, thats the only code I got....sigh...I guess I'll have to do what you said and check out the wiring for the shift lock solenoid in the cabin then.

I just need to make this retarded transmission last until summer so I can do the 5 spd swap.

What year is the car, what original TCM and from what year the replacement TCM did you put in? The reason why I asked you this is because when my TCM broke I've learned that 90-91 has a different TCM than a 92-93, you cannot mix and match. If you did not mix it up then it seems that you have two separate problem. As far as I know the shift lock-up solenoid has nothing to do with your shifter lock mechanism.

Try this thread. I found it while having the same "cant shift outta park" syndrome after I swapped my H22 Auto in. I had to connect two wires together and then it worked like normal. This thread solved my problem though. so I hope it does yours as well.

then you put the white/green and green/white wire together, the side that is cut away from the plug, so your pretty much jumping them together.

Thanks, I might give that a try if anything starts acting up again, but for now, I'm afraid to mess with anything because its running good with the exception of the shifter being locked.
