    Performance Issues

    Hey guys from torontoaccords.com

Got a problem maybe you guys can help

The car runs great when shift under 3, but when i push it, its like the feeling that the clutch is slipping or some type of hesitation after 3.5k. Now things that have been replaced include, radiator, clutch(last 2 years), plugs, wires, distributor recently. Just wondering what you think the problem is, it doesnt seem to happen nearly as bad when the car is cold or if it is really cold outside and the car is warmed up. Also, sometimes when cruising at highway speeds at 3 k the tach jumps up a little to like 3.8k ,etc when throttle position is the same. Thinking of replacing the ignitor and the fuel filter. right now im just really fed up because the other night i was driving and it was like the car was brand new(it was cold out and was driving hard) thanks in advance.

you say you changed the clutch did you resurface the flywheel and its timing on point ? waht octane gas do u use?

yeah i use 87 octane, and the clutch was resurfaced. its almost as if its related to throttle position, but not always, its so annoying cause this could be a number of things that is wrong, clogged cat, electrical, sensors, etc, and its hard to describe too.

is there any thing i can check for, test, clean, etc? what about vacuum lines, how to check? thanks guys for responses.

yeah ill try some 93 guys. No CEL's although i did get one last year for a bad 02 sensor, that was changed at Honda. im leaning towards a sensor or 02 sensor of some sort, anyway i can clean/check these?
And its weird usually when i floor it, the tach goes all the way to 9k but the motor is doing nearly that and then it starts to hesitate almost... soo pissed...but i really appreciate the help its good.

yeah ok ill be cruising around 2k lets say in 2nd gear, and then i floor the throttle the engine will start to pull, then almost like a slight hesitation/or like its cutting out between about 3k to 5k then after it will be fine but the tach bounces and stays up to 9k as long as im on the gas. so weird, getting discouraged.

sorry to double post guys, but i tested my igniton coil two times. The first time it was cold (manual says to test it cold) and The values on the voltmeter were the correct values the manual stated. however, I tested it after it had warmed up and the secondary value on the coil was way off the charts, could this be a cause of my problem?

Also, after reading this in the PGM-FI FAQ it kinda makes sense...

"Each map has entries for a pre-determined range of engine speeds (called speed sites) and a predetermined range of engine load conditions (called load sites) which generally indicate how far open the throttle is. The EMS knows the engine speed (derived from the crank sensor or distributor pickup) and the engine load (from the Throttle Position Sensor or airflow meter) and will use these two values to ‘look-up’ the appropriate fuel and timing settings in each map."

basically what i think is happening is that the distributor is getting an incorrect engine speed and therefore sending the wrong signal to the PGM computer, also why my tach is messed.

that sounds like it could be a possibility...

ok clutch is not slipping cause the same problem happens when revving in neutral or just holding the car at lets say 4k, the tach will bounce around a little, do you think replacing the igniton coil and the fuel filter will help for starters? i dont want to spend to much coin?

Check the timing. That was causing my problem.

BTW, do manuals have a 9000 rpm limit? Mine tops out at 8000, but its AT.

Ok, so ive narrowed it down to an electrical problem, perhaps a connector of somesort. It will run great for a day, then the problem will pop up shortly after. so then i go around the engine bay, tighten the ignitor coil leads, a few connectors around the distributor (anyone know what they are?), and the fuel injector connectors, does anyone know how to take these off to clean and inspect them, thanks.
