well when it warms up and running around the city/idling it reads 1/3 the way up, mechanic on hondatech told me his runs at the same everyday all day. I noticed when i get onto the highway it works alot less than at idle so the temp almost reads cold (not quite but well at the bottom) hope that helps.

You should not see much past 210 F max. If you're hitting 250 F, that is definitely too much.
I would first check that the gauge is accurate, compare the reading to a known temp substance or confirm with another gauge. If it is accurate, then definitely stop driving that engine and get the problem resolved.
Check if you're coolant system is working properly. If so, then it is probably something very wrong with engine internals. Also check your ignition timing is set properly, I would check all spark plug conditions as well to get an indication per cylinder.

Hondafan81 basically nailed it. Most oils function the best around 185-200 degrees. Anything over or under that will hinder performance. This is why some people have problems with oil coolers "overcooling" oil to where they dont reach the proper operating temp.

i havnt checked anything yet i just got off work i will run down the list of stuff to check today. and let everyone know how it goes. another question i had is how much oil on average do the f22s burn? its got about 140,000 miles.... anyone know?Originally posted by wed3k View Postnot enough clearances can usually lead to higher oil temps. im wondering if 250 is normal for a honda though?
