    EGR valve cause the ping?

I searched the web all night for that weird ticking noise in my engine.I came to the point that it's a mai-functioned EGR valve would cause the engine to ping since the chamber temp is too high. And this will lead to serious engine damager?
Now I started to think that it's not my egr ports but valve itself is shot.Is there a way to check out that whether the egr valve itself is bad? I really wanna try it out to see if it is true........
So,the noise is not my valve, but a failed egr valve? Plus the rough idle and poor mpg........... sighs..................
Any input is to be appreicated.

I also read that if the pinging is bad it could lead to head gasket failure and pinston crack........no!!!!! Is it that serious with a failed egr valve? I dare not to drive my car any more,seriously,sighs.......... Any idea guys?

Is it still ok to drive it for a few days more since I don't have time to go to the shop these days, maybe next week.Yet the pinging is getting worse now,it's been 1 month and a half since I had the small pinging and now turns out to be worse and the idle became rough 3 days ago.
Time to prepare the money for head gasket replacement or time to part it out!?!?!?!?!?

Parting out? If it still looks like it does in the picture in your sig I'll take everything except that pinging engine!

Seriously though, it sounds to me you have other issues --- not necessarily a bad EQR causing all of that. Bad, heavy pinging can and maybe will eventually cause a piston to crack, so don't accelerate hard when you hear it.

In the short run, you might be better off reducing ping with high-octane gas and/or an octane additive (make sure it doesn't contain lead!!) until you can better get a handle on what's really going on.

Yeah, take a look another pic of it in my sig, want it now?lol.
It's in very good shape,just..........the engine seems to be.........
I will go out and drive it a bit again, see what's going on,if getting worse,I will drive to the shop right away.......

ok,today, the rpm seems to be bouncing somtimes, how much for a egr valve? Last time my shop told me the max could be 300-400 CND for EGR work,is that true?

Hard to imagine an EGR valve could cost that much, but you never know. Invest in a Haynes or Chiltons book at the least and see what it says. Doubtful yer EGR is causing all of that, but I have no idea what is.

Give the forum some time to answer your question, or cross-post to other places such as accordtuner, accordinglydone, honda-tech etc. Always a good idea to put multiple feelers out there if you need a quick answer.

EGR components are generally simple to work on and easy to access.
Taken from a chiltons manual, which gives procedure for testing.

The Prgrammed Fuel Injection (PGM-FI) System is a fully electronic...blahblah..The ECU is given responsibility for control of...blahblah..alternator control as well as EGR function and canister purge cycles.Troubleshooting is generally based on symptom diagnosis and stored fault codes, if any.
Ok stop..hammer time. No. It says if theres an egr problem is would be reported by the ecu. Did you pull any fault codes? Wouldn't that be the best way to figure out if your egr is faulty?
EGR Valve Lift Sensor - The ecu regulates the function of the EGR valve through the EGR control solenoid. The lift sensor translates the movement of the EGR shaft into an electric signal which is sent back to the ecu. The control unit compares this signal to preprogrammed values for optimum function. The sensor is located on the EGR valve.
It seems entirely logical to me that if the ecu is not spitting out egr fault codes, there is no fault with the egr.

thanx man for the reply! really useful! So,I may try to pull out the codes and see what they are? While the check engine light has never been on.In some cases, people say CEL will not be on even the egr is failed??

I really wanna do,just the weather never allows me to,it's been good this week, but, just as I am off today,it started raining......... and none of my friends would have some ideal places for me to do it........... I think basically that's why the car shop got more business during the winter time here..........
But don't give up on me,I will do it just when the weather clears up.

bro bad weather around my area dont matter, well throw up a tarp to cover our ass's. hell half the time we dont give a shit water never hurt nobody. stop giving me excuses bro its cheap just time consuming dont let your pretty car go to waste.. its to clean to worry about rain bro, get to gettin. and as far as your oil problem as long as u know you put atleast 4-4.5 quarts in you will be fine, your not leaking any right? your not burning it to bad right? than dont worry about it. i never get an accurate reading either. but next time u fill up on gas sit there for 15 mins with the car off and than see how much oil you have, nothings more level than a gas station base. i have put 5 quarts of oil after an oil change and nothing happend, i dont reccomend doing it because you will blow seals (especailly in high mileage motor) but your having so much problems its hard to keep up. but im sure your oil level is fine your just getting a fucked up reading. u do have the right dipstick right? its not a civic one or some shit is it(LOL). is your oil looking or smelling burnt? is it black, a healthy engine should have caramel colored oil, u should be able to see the dots through the oil. and it shouldnt smell burnt. but i am taking no more excuses get those egr ports DONE BROTHA!
