Not cheap enough to make it worth pulling a transmission back out!

Common sense but if you do get an action, be sure to slide the clutch disk onto the input shaft of the tranny before you do anything, making sure it's machined correctly. Trust me, I know

I have the exact same stg1 xtd setup and hate it, can't wait until I can afford a fidanza and exedy oem setup.

the flywheel was probably machined with a little bit of runout.

i resurfaced my old ebay 13lb flywheel which chattered and it was not straight at all.

Well, transmission is off. I'm definitely guessing the flywheel has some awesome runout, based on the clutch wear. While there isn't a lot of actual wear, there are dark and light spots (chatter, I'm assuming).

On another note, I got the transmission out in 2 hours, working by myself, other than actually removing the transmission from the car (my brother benched it). I felt pretty good, considering the first time took me FIVE hours, haha. Now I just have to wait for my OEM flywheel and misc. nuts and bolts to show up. I decided to order some new radius rod bolts, old ones were a little galled, and some misc bolts for the slave cylinder and a VSS bracket (lost mine first time I pulled the trans).

Damn, now that I think about it, I should of ordered a rear main seal...oh well.

Mate, you should have bought a lottery ticket.

The amount if kinetic energy in a flywheel spinning at high rpm is absolutely massive (even with a 'lightweight' flywheel). An exploding flywheel will burst through a bellhousing and firewall like they were not even there. More than one racer has been literally torn to pieces by an exploding flywheel, especially in FWD cars. If an exploding flywheel (or pieces thereof) hit you it's likely to be instant death, if you're lucky...

Cars running high rpm / high output motors really should have a substantial scattershield fitted...

Do it while you have the trans off. It'll save you a headache down the road. I highly recommend it.

but it was also a ford focus.

Chatter is usually caused when either the flywheel or clutch have not been replaced and you retorque the two together. ie..you buy a new flywheel, but not a new clutch or vice versa or neither. Just remove the clutch from flywheel and retorque(during a swap).

Chatter is also caused by improper break in.

I've had my ebay(xtd) flywheel for over 4 years and I've yet to have any problems with it. The only complaints I have had is that it doesn't have timing marks. I do have clutch chatter, but that was caused by my not ever resurfacing the flywheel when I replaced my clutch and me not caring enough to break in my clutch properly.

I've found that even a medium-light sand(with 100 grit) on botch clutch plate and flywheel makes a lot of the chatter go away.

But it was a German Transmission.... Yeah and it was also faster than and cheaper than any honda I have found... $5500 invested for 12.5 1/4mph... and thats after and including the replacement tranny... After replacing the tranny bellhousing (i used the old guts) I installed a LSD and was actually able to drive the @#%$ out of it daily and did. without issue.. I got rid of it as it was slightly to small for a Growing family, and SVT increases insurance 3X... not to mention daily challenges to race on the road were getting dangerous despite my lack of interest or actual involvement, I have had 2 cars wreck while trying to harass me into racing. I have a small kid and dont need that. Family>Cars.

In the case of shattering flywheels... this was a FWD car, the chances of getting killed/injured are pretty low as there is a firewall and a dash between me and the tranny. It was a dual mass flywheel and there was a TB on it but ford wouldnt honor it as it was out of warranty.

I hate it when people make stupid baseless comments like well its a ford, its a chevy, its a toyota, its a honda.. etc.. If you are a true car guy, you have basis for your opinion.... Beyond just shallow responses.

ford focus is anything from a true car. BTW: thanks for responding to my comment, two months later.
