I've searched to no avail, can't find my problem. what i've got is a problem shifting into 1,3,5. the travel is there but it feels sloppy and wont go into gear. i've got a new clutch, slave and master cylinder and an h23 salvage tranny on an f22b. it seems to me that the cable has stretched and wont "push" properly to engage the gears. any thoughts? i don't really wont to spend the money on cables if thats not the problem. does the box the cables attatch to on the tranny wear out?

It may be that one of the rubber bushes has collapsed (i.e. the bushes at each end of the longitudinal motion cable, which is the one on the right). Check the bush at the gearbox end of the cable by looking under the bonnet (hood) while an assistant moves the lever back and forth (use a torch, check for sloppiness in the bush where it attaches to the shift lever on the gearbox). Check the one at the lever end by taking the central console out.
It could also be that the lever is hitting the forward edge of the lever aperture in the centre console, and this is preventing the lever moving far enough forward to engage 1st, 3rd and 5th gears. Check this by removing the centre console and then removing the fake leather lever boot, then refitting the console so that you can see how close to the aperture the lever is moving (whether it's being fouled or not).
Some CB7s have a threaded adjustment on the lever end of the longitudinal cable (mine does, but I've seen photos of another that doesn't). If you lengthen this then you can angle the lever backward to create more clearance to the front of the lever aperture.Regards from Oz,
John.

like JohnL said...I have this issue right now where in gear and in neutral I can move the shifter a GOOD bit forward and back, the issue is in the gear box and not the cable.
If the cable where stretchING then that may be an issue but I doubt that. If it has stretched I don't think that would result in play...
Have you taken a look in the gear box? The part that has the breather tube, check in there. Like I said I am having an issue where I have free play and it's in that area but since I haven't messed with it I can't be more specific.__

well i got it, put the car on the lift at the shop today. the cable that does the gear selection(front to back), is a mess. the wires that surround the cable are all frayed and the plastic that protects the center cable is knarled up. so long and short - honda parts connection will deliver used cables tomorrow $100
