    lighting question

I just replaced my alternator after it died on me one night and killed my battery and I've noticed now that when driving at night and I hit the brakes my headlights dim and occasionally they go out completely along with my radio and interior lights but come back on a split second afterward.

Any ideas what the problem may be?

Sounds like you have a bad alternator.

Cause if the headlights are dimming, that means the battery is not getting a charge.

Or failing Electric Load Detector. You need to check all the components in your Charging System. Verify all connections too!

if its an Autozone Alt. don't be surprised if you may have to go through 3 or 4 of them before you get a good working one. I went ahead and upgraded to a Prelude reman'd one, they're made in Malaysia instead of Mexico and have the OEM "ND" insignia on the back of it, plus they output 95amps vs only 80 amps. So it may be a good idea to get a prelude one. The only thing you'd need to do is swap pulleys since the prelude one has 6 ribs vs 5 on the accord

I got it from Advanced. And when the old one died on me I ran the battery down to nearly 5volts trying to get it home. Is is possible that my battery isn't holding a charge right? I'll check all my connections to see what I can find there and let you guys know.

wow 5 volts? I remember when my alt died and i had only about 9 volts and my car was messing up. So 5 volts is dangerously low. I'm sure the batt. isn't in the best of shape anymore, so thats prob. why its still crapping out on you. Get it tested like the guy above said and then you can rule out the alt. after you know the batt. is fine.

Appreciate the input guys. Yeah after the alternator died nothing would work right and the car ran like crap. I'll get the battery tested and let you guys know how it turned out.
