    Brake lights dont work!!!

Recently i have had 2 problems, my horn doesnt work and my brake lights dont work. the running lights work fine it just the brake lights dont come on when i brake.. i dont know what it is, i looked for all the wires and nothing is lose. its ironic that my horn and my tail lights both dont work recently. any clues :/

With the Horn goin out also, its might be a fuse. Not sure or not if the brake lights and fuse are one the same fuse. But its worth a check.

But all our answers are things that should be the first thing you checked.

Ok, so i went out and replaced my blown horn fuse with a 30A instead of a 20A the brake lights work. but the horn doesnt. every time i pop in a 20A amp fuse it blows. the 30A doesnt blow but my horn doest work. what could it be?

Never put in a higher rated fuse. If the 20A blows, there's a short somewhere. Probably in the horn circuit. 20 amps is a lot of current. I would check if the one of the horns is shorted out, then check to see if a wire has frayed (or melted) and is shorthing to ground.

would something happen if i just run with 30A for tonight? i disconnected the horn. how can the horns be shorted out, u mean inside the horn itself? the connector looks ok.

If you're blowing 20A fuses, there is definitely a problem. You're better off with a blown 20A fuse in there than a 30A that works. The wires in the circuit were not designed to carry 30A and that amount of current can damage them. The fuses are there to protect the wiring in the car so that the fuse will blow before the wires are damaged. I would rather replace a fuse than an entire wiring harness!

When you disconnected the horns, does it still blow the 20A fuse? If so, it is probably a wiring issue. If you have a Helms manual, Helms Electrical Troubleshooting guide and/or a Chilton (or Haynes) guide, you have your best resources in hand. If you have none of these, I would recommend the Helms set. Expensive, but well worth it! If you can't afford that, at least get a Chilton or Haynes manual. Some of them have wiring diagrams that may help you with this issue and many others down the road.

thank you, i went to the store and bought 20A fuse. i put it in and brake lights work perfect. Now the horn is disconnected, i went to use the horn and the fuse blew so its got to be a wiring issue with the horn..because the fuse is fine until i honk the horn..

edit: ok i managed to bring up the wiring diagram for the horn. do both horns have to be hooked up in order to work?

Im sure after putting a higher amp fuse in, the short should be more than noticable when you find it. Just look for any burnt wires.
