so we got the jdm h22 and lsd 5 speed in and it started right up. we took it for a test drive and the vtec was weak as fuck. the oil light came off and on time after time.I was also getting a cel code for the knock sensor. i drove it some more then the motor shut off. the timing belt almost came off and the exhaust cam slipped a few teeth. i had someone take apart the oil pan and some stuff and they said the oil pump and bottom end look fine. there wasnt any oil getting to the exhaust cam so it dug into the the casting of the head. i have another head, some new cams and about to get the kaizenspeed eliminator kit. why the fuck would this part seize in the first place?

That sounds quite wierd. Im sure it siezed due to the lack of oil. Thats a hard one to guess. But you dont need that balance shaft anyhow. You might want to be looking into a new oil pump. And you better be easy with that engine, you never know what other damage there is when you get that other head put back on. You might mess around and spin a bearing.

What is the history of this engine prior to your install?
Your front balance shaft seal walk out? Was that seal damaged or missing when you received engine?
I'm thinking this engine had a low lube level issue prior to your receiving it and assuming you did the install properly & prepared engine properly....it was already damaged and a ticking time bomb.
Even though you don't need to run balance shaft belt, I'd be more concerned with the oil starvation causing secondary damage to other engine parts and metal debris contamination.
Besides, if my theory is true, this is the 2nd time atleast this motor has been oil starved. Basically, I would not trust this motor unless it were fully inspected, thoroughly cleaned and rebuilt...OR you may be better off just installing your spare head onto another good used block and installing that motor or just another complete motor.

Your post doesnt say anything about your balance shaft seizing but rather more indication of your exhaust cam seizing and tearing your head up. You do not need to fully remove the balance shaft assembly in order to eliminate the belt assembly. you can purchase the block off plate from bisimoto that allows you to keep the shafts in the block but eliminate the gears.Originally posted by cleanjdm View Postso we got the jdm h22 and lsd 5 speed in and it started right up. we took it for a test drive and the vtec was weak as fuck. the oil light came off and on time after time.I was also getting a cel code for the knock sensor. i drove it some more then the motor shut off. the timing belt almost came off and the exhaust cam slipped a few teeth. i had someone take apart the oil pan and some stuff and they said the oil pump and bottom end look fine. there wasnt any oil getting to the exhaust cam so it dug into the the casting of the head. i have another head, some new cams and about to get the kaizenspeed eliminator kit. why the fuck would this part seize in the first place?

1) Who says the balance shaft is seized, Have YOU actually checked it?
2) Which balance shaft are you talking about?
3) I agree with Cisco, If that is the case either lack of oil or serious lack of servicing has caused the oil galleries to get blocked enough to not allow any oil through.

This balance shaft plate that turbo90 is referring to allows you to eliminate the balance shaft gears. This raise oil pressure, which is good for an engine's performance. You can get one from Bisimoto. http://bisimoto.net/store/index.php?...roducts_id=347.Originally posted by turbo90accord View PostYour post doesnt say anything about your balance shaft seizing but rather more indication of your exhaust cam seizing and tearing your head up. Robert- your post is both right and wrong.... the balance shaft plate does indeed allow you to remove the rear gear but not the front gear... at least i dont understand how it would allow me to remove the gear using the supplied 40mm plug... and instructions?
second just removing the gears would not raise oil pressure and you would indeed need to remove the main girdle of the block and install plugs to completely remove the shafts at which point the oil pressure would indeed be raised.

yes thats what im thinking. i havent checked it personally just my mechanic. the motor and tranny came from hmotorsonline.Originally posted by wed3k View Postmaybe lack of oil for the balance shaft which caused that to seize and then caused the cam to seize.

i recently had one of the balance shaft bearings walk out and get into a duel with a piston in my obd2 jdm h22a. what i did when i rebuilt the engine was bought a new set of balance shaft bearings from the stealership, ground off the locater tab and pressed them in in such a way that the oil passeges were blocked by the bearings. after that, i put the shafts back in and left the balance belt off. technically doing it this way you could run the block off plates and not even worry about putting the shafts in at all.
