Yep, also try to pry it from two sides at once so you're not torquing it one direction.

I pryed at mine with a crow bar and while using one hand to pull on the axle. be careful if it comes out because if you pull too hard it will fly out and damage the seal in there. after it pops loose, use one hand to support the cv housing and another to pull it out. also be careful to not pull the cv joint out of place. it is a pita to get back together. i ended up replacing my axle because of that joint.

also off topic but get that fram filter out of there! lol

I will try that too... Thank you sir.

Fram filter was done by previous owner. I never put cheap stuff in my car.

Last time I replaced an axle I used 2 large flat head CRAFTSMAN screwdrivers (one on each side) to pry the axle out with. Use CRAFTSMAN because they will replace it without any questions asked....if it breaks.

EDIT: and I've used the cheapest FRAM oil filters forever without any problems 260k and counting.

yeah an 18" prybar always has worked for me. I mean all you really have to overcome is the snap ring at the end of the axle right? Can you remove the intermediate shaft w/ the axle still attached?

Okay I tried all the above and won't come off.
And yes I end up taking off the intermediate shaft with the axle.

I took to two shop and they can't take it off either.
Looks like I will have to get a new intermediate shaft and new axle.

Get an air chisel and see if that works, cheap axles have crappy retaining rings on them causing this problem. I've had very stubborn retaining clips in the past from all of the auto parts new and refurb axles. Raxles.com is the only one I've found that is great quality.

Yup, thats what the shop used, all air but won't work either.
Something is just not right about it.

i know exactly how you feel, i cant get my old axle out of my old blown tranny for the life of me. i have been trying since i broke my car 4th of july and its not budging. now i got a new tranny and i cant get my halfshaft in all the way, it goes in all but 1/8 of a inch about. evryone keeps telling me "they are just a pain" but its a little past that point now. they are straight stuck. please let me know if you find a solution cause im in the same boat, twice. lol im thinking autozone axles are finally showing why their cheap. but they wont give me my warranty cause i cant bring back the whole axle. go figure!

i pulled the axle stub out of a 97 neon with a shitty little screwdriver at the track. it took like 4 hours to do because there was no way to really get a good angle on it until i said fuck it and ripped it out. replaced and went home. lol

its all about the angle with cv's.

Oh god, tell me more about it. It was pissing me off.
Trying for days and with every options there is.

A solution to taking off just the axle? Naw, I have no solution.
I just took off the whole intermediate shaft alone with the axle and replace it with a use one.
Luckily a very good friend of mine have a complete spare one sitting around so he gave it to me.

I brought axle once from Autozone awhile go but had no problem with them. Other than that I brought from Napa or Honda.
