    sudden auto tranny problem! help!

today i changed out a couple rotors, wheel bearings, and a tie rod. took the car for a short test drive with no problems at all. coming back, when the car was placed in park, there was a thud and a kind of grind-click. now all gear act like neutral (car rolls powerless in park, drive, etc). there is also a grind-click every time the car is placed in park from drive. is this simply a shift cable or is it something more serious like the torque converter?

    thanks in advance

yeah it sorta sounds like your shift cable came partially undone. Take off the cover plate from underneath and make sure that 10mm bolt is securing the cable to the transmission properly. I had this happen when i was auto, and the gears felt like they didn't engage fully

I'm leaning towards a popped out axle as well. I had one that didn't seat on my old Corolla and it went twenty five miles and popped just enough to keep the car from driving, but not enough to fall out of the tranny. Make sure you feel the retainer ring click when you put them in. Good luck!

This is exactly what I didnt do the first time. I just pushed it in from the wheel end and assumed it went in all the way. How boneheaded of me

I cant wait to check it now..

so apparently my buddy verified the axle was in tight before tge test drive, but I had installed the boot incorrectly. It popped out after hitting a small bump. its all fixed now, thanks guys!
