    VTEC engages harshly.

As the title implies I have a 94 H22A swapped into my coupe. I had four CELs
    for the following systems:

    - EGR
    - MAP
    - IAT
    - VTEC

3 out of the 4 CELs fixed:

So on Sunday (9.26.10) I met up with my friend Dan (GraniteCB7) at another friends place - Mark (93H22Wagon). With Dan's help we went through the car and repaired the CELs. Except for two: Code 10 (IAT sensor) I traced it to a bad wire and Code 20 ELD (Electrical Load Detector)

Now everything on the car works as it should, it runs better, idles fine (slight air leak at FITV but it just needs a cover).

    Symptom

My problem is this, when I get on the highway and I increase my speed and the RPMs rise..at about 5,500 RPMs just when it hits the VTEC cross over point it cuts out and bogs the motor.

I went through a manual for a 1994 Prelude that I got from work and no symptoms of this matter are even out lined in the book. I tested the voltage and continuity from the engine harness and everything checks out.

Keep in mind I have NO cel, I had one for an ELD (Electrical Load Dectector) and changed that last night..that CEL went away so all that remains is Code 10.

    Searched for the same issue:

I've googled this problem and even tried looking on here, Preludepower.com, Honda-Tech.com and even HondaSwap.com. All have come up with similar problems but no one has a definitive answer..although there was one thread on here that just made me shake my head and some of the here say and word of advice that was thrown in one thread.

    Question

My huge question is..has anyone had this same exact problem and if so what did you do to resolve it.

Just a recap I have done the folllowing:

    - Tested and measured for Voltage and Continuity at the VTEC harness and Solenoid

    - Checked my oil level (basically a fresh oil change last night)

    - Checked the Pins for the proper locations

    Main reason for said thread:

VTEC engages very harsh at 5500 RPMs but drives fine under normal low speed cruises.

    What would cause this??

    Possible cause??:

I also remembered that a coolant temp sensor on the thermostat is broken and I'll be getting a part for that shortly..would this be the culprit?

Do you have a TUNED ECU? Using A stcok ECU MAY GIVE YOU PROBLEMS ON VTEC or you DIDNT PROPERLY re-pin THE ECU WITH your Engine Harness.

Henry, just wondering what you ended up using as an exhaust setup, your stock cb exhaust or did you make your ws2 fit? The stock exhaust plus a stock cat might be enough of a restriction to choke it out once the flow increases in vtec. just taking a shot in the dark on that one.

Zach I'm still using the stock exhaust but I don't think that would prevent the v tec from engaging.

Rob I've never messed with the distributor. I do have the code for an air intake temp. Zach since your the only guy I know with the same swap would you be able to disconnect the iat and see if you can verify that problem? If that's the problem then I know what to replace

The exhaust shouldn't be the problem. I have stock exhaust on my h22a and no problems. I would say double check your wiring and make sure you pined it correctly.

I will do that tomorrow morning and post up the results.

Your VTEC solenoid may need cleaned. I think there is a screen or something in there that can get clogged up.

Well I solved the problem with Code 10 - IAT Sensor..turns out it was an expose copper wire that was grounding out on the body of the car. Im going to check that VTEC screen though..since it still bogs.

Did you do some type of wire tuck?

Have you tried a different ecu?

Does your vtec solenoid have the proper ground? Have you checked your connections on the solenoid end?
