    A-pillar integrity

Recently, when going over any bumps on the driver's side or making abrupt accel/deaccel movements (shifting into 2nd. & 3rd. quickly), my a-pillar creaks. It is not a trim panel creak or weatherseal creak but a structural movement noise. My only guess is that because my front shock locked up and I drove it for awhile before noticing that corner sitting higher that a weld or 2 have broken loose. (shock locked up about 1/2" above normal spring height so weight was always on it and bumps directly impacted the tower. I thought it was the extremely cold weather making the ride harsh at first before noticing the height difference and checking it.)

I'm planning to pull my fender when I get the chance and check apparent places for breaks and possibly adapt a cd5 fender brace for general stiffness but has anyone ever heard of this happening before? It only creaks with extreme forces so I'm not worried about it completely failing, but it just seems like it shouldn't be creaking like that if all was normal.

get the shocks replaced asap. the sound is the car crying. j/k . bad roads will cause rattles in your car over time.

A man that keeps looking back can't see whats in front of him.

Just to update, haven't had time to pull the A-pillar trim and inspect yet. I DID get the front shocks replaced and it helped but the noise is still there, sounds like two pieces of metal making contact, hopefully I'll get a chance this evening since the weather will be nice.

I was looking at parts schematics and noticed here:

Parts 4 & 5 make a joint at the top of the A-pillar. This is the exact area where the noise is coming from so that'll be the focus of my inspection. Will update.

Well the creaking/popping turned out to be a worn out upper door hinge. It was moving back and forth creating the noise. Replaced it with new and that creak is gone!

In looking at that diagram... it makes me wonder...

If I got a junkyard CB7 and tore it down... cut all the welds for each of those pieces...
Then used them as templates to fabricate a tube frame... yeah...

I've thought about that as well except integrating a tube frame between the inner and outer skin welded to the inner skin.....essentially creating a very stiff chassis while retaining complete interior and exterior panels.
