    A6 IAB black box questions

Question 1: The cylinder on the left with the female fitting is pretty dried out. The fragments inside shattered and fell out before I even removed the cylinder. Will the cylinder still function as needed or does it need to be replaced? Common sense says replace but it was pretty difficult to find an A6 manifold at the yard and there were no preludes. Plus this is Arizona so I imagine they're all dry rotted. If it must be replaced I imagine it will be the whole sensor assembly. What is the name of the sensor? I could not find a name.

Question 2: I haven't seen any posts regarding this so I figure it's not an issue but I'll ask while on topic. Is there a plug in my harness for this sensor?

Also I read the h23 i.m. swap thread but couldn't find my answers.

Thanks in advance. The whole i.m. was 30 bucks so I'm not really to worried if pieces need replaced just don't really want to if I don't need to

The cylinder you are referring is just a cap on the solenoid. It shouldn't affect on the solenoid even it's broken. I had also the same kind worn out cap but it didn't matter. If you've got A1 or the A4 then you don't have the plug for the solenoid. There is however alot of info about wiring the IAB plates and the solenoid. What I did with my solenoid was that I relocated it so if the solenoid wouldn't work it would be easier to change. Don't know if there's anyway to test the solenoid than just connect it. The part number for the solenoid is 36163-PT2-004 and it's called bypass control solenoid. You'll also need the vacuum tank where the hoses go from the solenoid. Hope this helps!

Mine was cracked just like that and subsequently didn't work. You can rob the one from the intake resonator bypass. Since it's not exposed to all the heat, it's not all cracked and broken (at least mine wasn't, and worked fine)
