    braking issues

My mom has a 92 accord lx automatic and told me today that she was having problems with the brakes. I go over to check it out, test drive and whatnot but I need some help from you guys cuz I've never had an issue like this on mine.

I took it up the road and tested the brakes at different speeds, tried to slam on them and there is a significant loss of braking power. The pedal only moves about 1-1.5", so it doesn't go to the floor or anything. Also there's a hissing noise heard in the car near the pedal and you can also hear it around the master cyl./booster area. Also the engine kinda bogs down with the pedal pressed, I don't know if that's normal with automatics or not.

Any help with this is greatly appreciated.

Booster...... Kind of rare for these accords but sounds like it... Unless the vacuum line is not connected... But the car probably wouldn't idle right.

The vacuum line from the booster to the manifold is connected. checked for leaks with a water/soap solution on that line and there was no air bubbles. The idle drops with the pedal depressed, like I said I'm not sure if that happens on all automatic cbs because i drive a manual.

Bad brake booster will have a hard pedal.
Master cylinder the pedal will go to the floor.

Pull the check valve before and blow into it... You should get resistance only one way.

I agree. Brake booster. The hissing is coming from a leak in the booster, which would have symptoms such as idle dropping/engine sputtering and hard brakes (like when you press the brakes with the car off).
