    Overheating, turbo setup

Im having issues with it overheating now. ive been driving it for a while its been broke in good before the turbo but still only has 600 miles on the engine, new everything, i mean everything. the water pump is new and only has the 600 miles on it and its a honda manufactured water pump from honda, before i rebuilt the enging, my old pump and motor had 400,000 miles on it so i really dont think its bad, and no coolant has come out the weep hole at all.

I have a factory replacement radiator from the parts house, oem spec and it overheated and hairline crack the top of it just a little on the plastic, but the same thing happened to my original radiator, just old as hell though. im running two ten in slim fans running all the time when i hit my main ignition toggle and it was full of antifreeze. I can even take the fitting completly out that u get the air out of the system when u fill it up while its running and nothing will come out of it.

Im getting ready to go home and put my fans on my new radiator and put it in. im really hoping its my thermostat, im going to tak it out when im working on it and see what it does, im hoping to god its my thermostat even though its new too, i really dont think its my head gasket either, the deck was very tru on it and no oil or coolant is mixing, hope its the thermostat, find out in a couple of hours.. Just wanted to throw this on here to get a couple of opinions or ideas really, so thanks......

How bad is it? Is your gauge showing hot or just getting an engine light?

Do both radiator hoses get hot? What temp is it getting too?

Are you putting boost to your engine? If you are, what are you using for an EMS/Tune? Didn't see any mention of tuning software, ignition adjustments, injector upgrades or boost pressure/limits.

You said the thermostat is new? What brand did you use? I had used autozone thermo stats and up until I got a new oem thermostat from Honda they kept failing on me which led to a whirl of other problems.

Got it fixed guys, it was my thermostat. it was a stant from advanced auto, went and got me one of those fail safes that opens up if it sticks closed or gets hot, reversed tyhe polarity on my 2nd slim fan mounted in front of the radiator between the intercooler to where its blowing through the radiator and cooling the engine, turbo and everything, but al in all it had to have been my thermostat, thanks for the input guys, just wanted to do some brain bouncing off some people.. thanks

Just a thought, you wouldn't be running straight antifreeze would you? If you are I would highly suggest you drain 50% and replace with distilled water. Antifreeze doesn't have the cooling properties that water has to offer, it's only there to keep the water from freezing in the cold months.

                Where did you read this?

Ethylene glycol and/or Propylene Glycol are not only an anti freeze solution. They both have a higher boiling point than water. When mixed they actually lower waters specific heat capacity. However I agree that they shouldn't be run in pure form. In order to run pure coolant you would have to increase the engines cooling systems flow rate. It's easier to just add water.

Im running the 50/50 premix, and yes it does keep it cool in the summer too.

A friend of mine figured out that its the single core radiator, a oem replacement from any auto parts store, our factory one is dual core but all they offer at all parts house is a single core and i guessits not circulating enough.
So what im going to do and he also suggested just getting the dual core mishimoto civic radiator and just fab me some bottom brackets. thats what it has to be making it overheat, just not enough cores to circulate it cause the fans run all the time and keep it very cool and have replaces everything else, thanks guys, just letting everyone know, throw input if u have some..... thanks

An aluminum dual core civic half rad will flow very well. It actually has a larger fluid capacity than the stock Accord rad.

                      Here is my Yonaka dual core 1/2 rad installed;

I have a more detailed page on my blog Half Rad DIY

For your purposes you'll probably only want to move one of the lower mounts. I moved both of mine becuase I had to move my rad all the way over. This was done in order to fit the rad/fan shroud that goes up through the hood vent I have.

thanks man, very helpful and now that lets me know that is more my problem than before, i was going to order a mishimoto but very expensive, yours looks good, how much was it and where did you get it. thanks for the info on how much capacity it has.

Also, ive been worried about how to mount it when i do get it, explain in detail in a private message if u want on what all exactly u had to do to fab up the lower and top brackets, just really been concerned on how to do it right and make it look good, just pm me if you dont care, thanks.....

Check the blog "Half Rad DIY" link that I posted above. That's pretty much step by step what I did to mount it in my chassis. If you need more info you'll have to give me some time to do a more in depth write up.
